Welcome to the forum, martinprahl! I'm listening a lot to "California 405". Yes I like that track alot too. There's some fantastic stuff on here. "Rainbow bridge" , "Angels", "Children" , "Vasastan" all are fantastic. I'm maybe not as keen on "Praise you" as it doesn't seem to have much of a hook, but still a good song

I've heard the entire album. My first feeling is I'm listening to Europe from the 80s, at a time where Hard Rock bands occupied places of honor in the world music in general and as I like the band of that time is really good. I think Joey's voice has changed from "Bag of Bones", his voice also reminds me the Joey in "Out of this word" it is a more acute and less raspy, in songs like "Praise You" or "Light me up". In "Praise You" John's guitar speaks again as it did in the solo "In my time," I really like. The same style "California 405" or "Second day" I moved to late 80s when the band was parched the triumph of "The Final Countdown" and were able to make an album that I marvel as "Out of this world", probably the increased presence of the keyboard is responsible for it. The ballad "Angels" is not my favorite, is large but does not thrill me as have others, but the jewel to me is the absolutely wonderful instrumental "Vasastan" reminded of the excitement I felt when first heard "Shimmering lights". My weakness of the album is "Days of rock n roll", I think that we are enjoy a lot with this song in live, has a wonderful rhythm that grabs you the minute from one, they are the Europe melodies catchy than the band in this second stage tries to escape in some way. When I hear "War of Kings" I thought this album was more a style "Start from the Dark" that I love but hearing the whole album has taken me back to the great 80s, and I'm glad of it.

I really like Angels at the moment, has quite a cool vibe reminiscent of the old days but still pretty contemporary. Sometimes I wish Joey would lock his vocals in more instead of wavering in vibrato which sometimes goes a little too far but ah well, we get what we get.

Yeah probably time this fan registered too haven't been involved in Europe discussion since the closing of the official forum... Howdy!
And like others here, think War Of Kings is their best since Secret Society and glad to finally have a Europe album of that quality again! The song that really grabs these ears thus far is Children Of The Mind. Excellent track! \m/

Hum I think Rainbow bridge is a weak song! Don't like the sound at all and as it is for now I have to fast forward or skip that track in the car! (sorry but yes that's my opinion) Vasastan is a sad but beautiful track! Mic and Norum has done a good job here! Angels also a beautiful song! Best tracks... Hole in my pocket, Nothing to ya, Days of rock n roll, Children of the mind and my favorite of the day is Second day! The lyrics and Joeys voice are fantastic!

I don't think there are any weak songs on the record. Actually I don't really agree about Rainbow Bridge. It has a good chorus, good Hammond type sounds, interesting lyrics. But I share a similar view with you about the best tracks on the album Whilst I don't for a moment consider it a 'bad' song, I think 'Light it Up' is possibly the weakest track on the album, or my own personal 'least favourite'

Following on from what paphoto and Mark-David said above (and thanks for the 'welcome' Eva )... Hey, can understand the dislike for Rainbow, that style can be hard to portray convincingly even Maiden don't nail it so well, so fair call but gotta say absolutely love its chorus! Agree too re Second Day, initially it sat well down the list but after a few runs through the record Second Day is well up there and agree with Mark that Light It Up is probably my least fave. Can hear the tongue in cheek fun and its musically cool (love that bouncy riff outta the chorus'), but on what is otherwise quite a nostalgic based record lyrically, Light It Up doesn't quite fit. Might be alone in saying this but I hear some throwback to Seventh Sign in Children Of The Mind (mostly in its intro and quite moment after the solo), and it's killer bass groove is sensational stuff! \m/
