Here are the two demos Joey recorded with Russ Ballard. I fixed the pitch on both.

Great work Stein! These demos are really coming out great 😃. I wonder if a few new demos might start making an appearance with all the footage dug out for the documentary.

I remember hearing in an interview (last year, I think?) that Joey had recently been digitizing his VHS tapes and demos, including the demo for "The Final Countdown"! I stil keep hoping that they will remaster the Le Baron Boys demos properly and release them someday.

Thank you! Well, that's not just a "basic" idea, it's very concrete, only the sound is different and not that "majestic". Does anybody know if there exists a pre-production attempt of the whole song?

Not sure. Joey talked about a one minute demo. Also not sure whether this is the exact same tune they used to open the disco (Berns Salonger?) in Stockholm. I suppose that if they called it The Final Breakdown for a while and the fact that there are other (pre) TFC demo's (On Broken Wings, Stranded, Can't you stay) plus something unfinished like Where men won't dare, that there must be some versions on tape somewhere. Also, didn't they say once that it was 6 minutes long? Regarding the whole subject of demos (Stein, correct me if I am wrong): - Joey recorded a lot of demo's and ideas at home - there is a documentary about Swedish Metal Aid where Joey plays the tape with part of the demo of Give a helping hand - LBB: Ian has said something like that they do not know where the multitracks are. Most came from a bad tape, but Talk to me sounds quite good quality compared to the rest - Blame it on me (and another song?) ended up on the swedisch rock encyclopedia cd's - songs like Here comes the night, Long time coming and Government man also got released - Kee has said he was promised a bigger part in OOTW songs and said something like they did not end up on the album. Whether something is recorded is not clear, same goes for PIP - before PIP they were in the Bahamas and there was a recording studio there (kee's house?) - Wings of Destiny was an early version of More than meets the eye - the song/demo Out of this world was based on a keyboard riff and not used. The riff was re-used on Days of Rock and Roll (I think) so imagine that riff with a TFC sounding keyboard - where men won't dare was supposed to be with lyrics, but unfinished - New love in town was based on an earlier much older idea Based on that I would say there must be quite some things. So Joey if you are reading this ... Open the vault!! By the way if anyone can come up with a nice lyric for Where men won't dare (and sing it a capella), I could put it in AI with Joey's voice and stick it over the melody:)

Not sure. Joey talked about a one minute demo. Also not sure whether this is the exact same tune they used to open the disco (Berns Salonger?) in Stockholm. I'm actually not sure if what we heard in the documentary preview was the demo that ended up being used for Berns Salonger, or the demo that Joey made for the TFC album. I suppose that if they called it The Final Breakdown for a while.... From what I've read, that was just a joke title they made up on the spot due to the difficulties they experienced during the recording, such as Ian struggling with recording the drum track. Luckily he managed it to nail it on the very last attempt of the day. Also, didn't they say once that it was 6 minutes long? That's right. I've always been curious about that, so I asked that question when they ran "Ask the Band" a couple of years ago. I was very happy when Joey responded! Here's what he had to say: "When Bob Ludwig, Kevin Elson and myself were mastering the song in NY early 1986, Bob suggested the song could benefit from being a bit shorter. So we decided to fade the song a bit sooner at the end. We also took out a part just before the second verse. That would bring the song down to just over five minutes. If you listen to the original album version, the part between 01:18 and 01:26 is the same part as the one we took out just before the second verse. Although these edits most likely did not change the destiny of the song, I do believe it strengthen the song and set up the second verse perfectly by going straight into “we’re heading for Venus”."
