^^ oh where's that can of worms photo...are here it is lol. Secret Society is probably my No.1 since reunion... I would probably also choose Secret Society as my favorite post-reunion album. When listening to the album Walk the Earth I've often thought, "I like the verses in this song, but not the chorus" or "I like the chorus in this song, but not the verses." For example, I really like the main riff and verses of "Haze", but not the chorus... Or there really isn't a chorus, just someone shouting "Haze" over and over again. I'm fairly certain this will remain my least favorite EUROPE album. Not a bad album at all... It just isn't my taste. In my own opinion the album has three great songs, three good songs and four OK songs.

Now I will go and find a wall to hide behind and wait for the hail of rotten eggs and vegetables... Sorry, wasn't trying to annoy you. I was just trying to indicate that I'm not in the "80's Europe or bust" crowd.

Hmmm This is not a good sign haha...since I still didn't hear the new album. For some reason it got delayed here (again) in The Netherlands. Same thing with TFC 30th anniversary. But I think I will download it tonight, sit on the couch and let it all sink in... But very interesting to read so many negative reviews on this forum for the first time. Or maybe I should say disappointing. Cause all the reviews I read in the media are very positive, most of them anyway. The biggest rock/metal magazine here, Aardschok, also had a very good review with 82 out of 100 points and it was in the top 10 best albums. War of Kings was album of the month by the way. Anyway, lets see what happens. I really hope I dont come back posting here that I agree with all you guys

Let's celebrate our differences. As usual with Europe albums opinions are divided inevitably. For me a solid album, but not melodic enough especially on the guitar playing. That's just personal preference for me - I love that uplifting melodic playing, with long soaring notes (think 'Vasastan'). That style does more for me than the style on this album.

Oke just heard the whole album, finally. I am nowhere near as disappointed as most of you are. It's an interesting record! I admit...it's a grower and I was really surprised as well at times. Need to listen to it a few more times, but my first impression is quite good. I think it's their most "progressive" record till now. The most experimental. And because of that, I can understand most reactions here, but yeah I happen to like it Actually, there is only one song that I really have my doubts about: Haze. Weird track, right? It's so messy. Weird chorus, not really a good solo by Norum standards, and what's up with all the drum rolls near the end?... I like pretty much all the rest of the songs with at least 6 super great songs: Walk the Earth, The Siege, Kingdom United, Pictures, GTO and Turn To Dust. Favorite song for now is WOLVES. What an outstanding track!

I've had a chance to listen to it a number of times now. Definitely a grower and it gets better the more you play it. There are a couple songs that I still can't get into as much, but I am enjoying much more than I initially was. It's good for us fans that are willing to play it a bunch of times. I fear those that aren't or on the fence fans that might not put the time in will be quick to toss it to the side.

As you rightly say repeat listens are rewarding and while personally still find some of the chorus' lacking the usual kick to the head Europe melodies (seems the faster tracks IMO!?) with time the album starts to make better sense! In fact so much so am finding Walk The Earth, The Siege, Haze and Wolves have each become an obsession, those being up there with this fan's favorite later-day Europe, making any subsequent Top10 song list even more difficult (again ) So yes agree, the fan's will be best served typically spending time with the record because there's a swag of good to be had regardless our early reservations \m/

Interesting to read all your feedback and reviews here. Seems to be a tougher nut to crack this one, according to most of you. As they did some good publicity ahead of the launch anticipating the album, expectations were high.
And i must say, for me these expectations are totally met. It might actually be my favority post reunion album. It has a great production, warm sound and organic flow. It is a very coherent album in my opinion. It might not have epic stand out tracks and instant Europe classics, such as LLAE, No stone unturned, WoK, but as a total it is a vey consistent bunch of songs. Previous albums would have more fillers i tend to skip while playing, WtE I like to from start to finish.
Call it Dutch taste or whatever, but i am totally in line with Ernie Ball on Wolves, what a great track! Great mood and melodie, hell yeah! Haze on the contrary might so far be the only song that will have to grow on my further. A rough one.
Have listened to it 2-3 times and will continue to do so, but so far a positive surprise for me. On top of that great artwok. At only 40 mins length it leaves me craving for more. Hope they still have some leftovers, but believe they mentioned this was it.
Take care, Alex
