Here is one interview where Joey talks about the 6 1/2 minute version: He mentions it at 2:42 in the video. What else could they fill the song with? Longer intro? More of the same riff repeated at the end? I struggle to know how or what the extra time was filled with.

One explanation could simply be that Joey is just misremembering things. But the fact that he has mentioned the 6 1/2 minute track length in so many interviews over the years does make me wonder...

Yeah totally, Every interview he mentions it yet I, like many fans, have wondered just what he could be talking about. Maybe its just a nice roundish sort of number to quote better than 5 minutes something. The song is long enough as a track as it is, 6 and a half would be spreading it out a tad too much IMHO.

Maybe it has a longer outtro? The album version has a fade out and in the end, when the music is almost gone you can still hear Joey sing. Well sing, it's actually more like 'yeah' but maybe the 6 1/2 minute version goes on at that point. Similar in a way like the longer Open your heart version I mentioned some time ago.
