(By the bye, Eva Tomorrow I take the opportunity to tell you that I love, love love your new avatar picture )
Thank you so much guesswho? I also love this picture. It was a special moment the meeting with the guys, ... they were all extremely friendly and to have a picture with Ian is an honor for me.
On the subject of LYRICS, for me it's really hard to understand the meaning of many songs, eg Firebox, I have tried to draw conclusions on the lyrics but I can not. Joey is nothing explicit in his intention to tell stories with the songs this could be a result of his personal and professional evolution and having survived being "Joey Tempest" I guess that in the past in some moments had to be really dificult, everyone expecting something big from him , .. must be very demanding. Anyway, as Michaela Italy I guess that in "Praise you" with sentences as "I just gotta be in your mind" does not speak from a possessive point of view maybe is more a needed to know more about thinking of other person about him, perhaps he speaks more of insecurities.
andy74 I'm glad to see you over here ... so Facebook has a good point !
ent Do you remember "The Sacred Secret of the Multicuote"? As you can see, I still don't know how to use it

We can live without THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
say WHAT???
Yes I know it was a way of saying that "there is much EUROPE beyond this song"
Anyway, maybe the world and specially the advertising industry would not be the same without this song, EVERYBODY loves THE FINAL COUNTDOWN ...
This vignette summarizes very well the presence of THE FINAL COUNTDOWN in everything ... I put it in another battle but worth recover it ... right ?

My selections for Group B are: PRAISE YOU - guesswho? and Michaela Italy...I want to add one crucial detail to your previous conversation in this thread. There has been a possession all right. Sex -- the clue is in this detail, when Joey switches out the word "saw" to "had". "From the first time I HAD you I just gotta be on your mind" But all this 'Praising' isn't him being possessive. I see it more as a veneration, hence the 'Thanking'; the reverence. "I want to thank you/I wanna thank you/Let it be said" "Let it be said" is such a proclamation. It show us how deeply she has affected him - for what she has brought into his life. She's precious. He isn't lusting after her, per se, but the "I just gotta be" lines suggest that he is certainly desperately hoping that she thinks of him - wants him - just as much as he does her. And Norum's guitar solo...you don't think there's some love-making suggested there? Norum's languid guitar-playing is firm, yet tender and is counterbalanced by Mic's delicate keyboards - love's sweet sighs perhaps? No rushing to get us to the finish line until we near the end of that solo, when it builds into that glorious crescendo and delivers us right back to Joey vocals. Ummmm, did it suddenly get hot in here or am I having a hot flash? THE FINAL COUNTDOWN - Hearing this song performed live and in person has made me soften towards it greatly. I have made peace. Some of you know TFC was not the song that got me into EUROPE back then - it was CARRIE and CHEROKEE that clinched for me. TFC is an anthem and the excitement that is felt in the venue when the crowd recognizes it is coming is quite an experience, isn't it. It deserves to go onto the next level in this Battle. SUPERSTITIOUS - I think this has Kee's best solo from those days. Soaring high notes in the middle of the solo, followed by the flurry of notes that just flows into each other as he cascades them down into the lower notes. And the message in Joey's lyrics. I can understand why some have had a few of those lines tattooed on their bodies. WAKE UP CALL - It seems to be another conversation with the alter ego for Joey, doesn't it? Like THE GETAWAY PLAN. "We meet somewhere in between this song and what we need" And the intro is definitely a wake-up call in itself...bomp bomp... ROLL WITH YOU - Wouldn't this make a great acoustic song? I wish Mic's piano was brought out to figure more prominently in this piece because I love how he goes along with Norum's guitar in parts; listen to the verses to see what I mean. They intertwine with each other as Joey sings and when Joey pauses, Mic breaks away briefly to play a few different higher notes while Norum continues steadily on. And Joey with these lines: "When you shut your eyes/I'll show the images you're missing/When you've heard enough/Through me you can listen". Who wouldn't want a friend to do that for them? I hope we all have people in our lives that would come through for us like that in our dark times. THE GETAWAY PLAN - oh, you knew this was going to knock your socks off when you first heard Norum bend that note at the start! High octane; we're off and running - you'd better keep up or you're going to get left behind. One of my favourites off SECRET SOCIETY. LET THE CHILDREN PLAY - I have this song's chorus play in my mind a lot - what a great melody. It, too, is one of my faves off SS. DRINK AND A SMILE - Go grab Led Zeppelin's "IV" album and listen to "The Battle of Evermore". Isn't the acoustic instrumentation (guitar and mandolin) in "Drink" a lovely tribute to that song?

Ummmm, did it suddenly get hot in here or am I having a hot flash? Oh, you just made a bunch of us women having hot flashes here, but that's ok... your verbiage and language capacity is so amazing that you couldn't explain it better in words!!! You also detailed so well what I mean by "the guilty guitar"... The incredible thing is that such a song, so deeply understood and felt from the female audience, has been written by men... and furthermore vikings! I really loved your description of Praise You and I did notice pretty much the switch from the "saw" to the "had" since the very first time I listened to this song. Joey often forgets to use the "had" when singing it live... or he does only in a few occasions. Pretty much noticed this too, because a simple word like that, it certainly becomes a "killer" when used! So the less it is used, the stronger effect it has on those occurrences! And certainly you get thrills up your spine when he does that!
