A few hours for the end of August we need another song of the best band of rock history to reign next 30 days.
Who are encouraged to give a title? Until now: June: READY OR NOT July: CALIFORNIA 405 August: BEAUTIFUL DISASTER September: After 2 recent songs, time for an old one ? A suggestion : "heart of stone" ? (...But I've already chosen "california 405 in july. So if someone else has another idea, no problem !)
Dear guesswho? I have read "the rules of the thread" and don't exclude a user who have already chosen another song plus your choice is perfect, personally I love HEART OF STONE, the song that with NINJA could have been "perfect singles" but were eclipsed by other songs such as The Final Countdown or Rock the Night ...
sooooo the song of the month in APHASIA FORUM is the wonderful HEART OF STONE
(THANK YOU SO MUCH guesswho? for your help !)

Heart of Stone is really a great song!
I can't wait for Europe to do some "30yrs of TFC" shows/tour next year so we can enjoy this track again.
Norum have played it on a lot of solo shows.

Heart of stone, a wonderful song, indeed. I remember, back in 1987, when I first managed to put my hands on The final countdown, the complete album. I already knew, from tv and radio, the four singles (TFC, Carrie, Rock the night and Cherokee) and I was so happy that I could finally listen to them again and again, whenever I wanted, without limits. And then I realized that under the gold there was... more gold! Ninja, Danger on the track, Love chaser ( ), and of course Heart of stone! It became immediately one of my favourite. That was a cassette and I have consumed tons of batteries rewinding it over and over again on my (at that time) brand new Aiwa Walkman. I clearly remember myself lying in bed with headphones on, half asleep, listening to Heart of stone and thinking (or dreaming?) that it was such a perfect piece of rock! Its recurrent riffs seemed like powerful pillars of a gothic cathedral, layed down in perfect simmetry, while the voice of the young Tempest was like picturing obscure frescos on the walls. And then came that solo guitar , carving high pinnacles on the facade, it was so...amazing. It seems yesterday and it's almost 30 years ago...

It's always a pleasure to read your comments full of lyricism ! So well-told experience that it can make us remember similar ones : I suppose we all have done this, listening again and again to Europe albums (and yes, with hairphones in our beds for many of us, surely ! )... Nice to see you back, friend ! Heart of Stone is really a great song! I can't wait for Europe to do some "30yrs of TFC" shows/tour next year so we can enjoy this track again. Norum have played it on a lot of solo shows. Yes, michaeljessen, Norum's versions of this song are great. Hope you're right, and EUROPE will really do a "30yrs of TFC" show or tour next year. But itseems that right now, they have'nt clearly thought about this ? Ian doesn't speak about this in his recent interview... forum.wingsoftomorrow.com/thread/958/interview-ian-haugland-pefmagazine

Welcome ent, and wonderful reflection , TFC is a reference, the album that has had more influence on many of us, for many people it will always be their favorite album and for those who do not, I'm sure it was the door to find more songs of Europe and probably also other hard rock bands, like me. I mean not only the famous song "Rock the night" "Carrie" or "TFC" I think all the songs that make the album have an incredible force that hit very strong in several generations of that time.
michaeljessen and guesswho?, about the "30yrs of TFC" I have high expectations for next year, I think that the 30 years of this album deserve a great celebration, but I'm not sure that the band wants it if I know a bit this band, they will be not very generous in this celebration, I hope I'm wrong. I would love to do something like "Wings over Sweden", well in this case for instance something more ambitious as "The Final Countdown over the World" you know? A concert where only were played the songs from TFC Album, wow it could be nice. But ... difficult. Let's see ...

May I? I would go for Flames. It was very popular when SFTD was released and I still think it's a groovy and epic song even if it's out from the setlist since the Secret society tour. I'm curious to know what you guys think of it. Is (has) it (ever been) among your favourite tracks? Would you like to have it back in the setlist?

Yes, you can!
Epic, absolutely EPIC song ... "FLAMES" including the marvelous "Start from the dark" personally with "War of Kings" the crown jewels.
"... There is no going back, this is what we know We come to entertain, asking you to follow Be born to self-destruct, here it comes again A desire to go down in flames .

SONG OF THE MONTH IN APHASIA FORUM (OCTOBER 2015): FLAMES
Relax, enjoy and let the song catches you,
Thanks a lot ent,

"Flames" is what I call "a good song".
There's 4 categories among EUROPE songs IMO :
-The exceptional ones : the songs that make you feel happy and energetic every time you're listening to them. The songs you're never tired of. The songs you're so fond of, the songs you find so perfect, that you couldn't do without them actually.
-The good ones : the solid foundation of Europe works. Songs full of qualities ; you simply like them, some days more than others.
-The average ones : songs that you can listen to with some interest, but you wouldn't really miss them if they were not there.
-The bad ones (not a lot !) : the songs you hate, and you're skipping systematically when you're listening to a Europe album. The kind of songs that could lead you not to like Europe anymore if they were together in a full album...
So, "Flames" is not among my very favorites, but it's a good song, with a lot of intensity. I appreciate it every time I'm listening to it. But that's not the one I would listen spontaneously when, having a little time in front of me, I think : "let's listen to a Europe song". Then, I would choose another one.
