After the 10 year wait, went and saw the guys last night in NYC. The set was the same that they've been playing on the US dates, so no surprises there. Since we rarely see them over here, there was one significant observations that I made since I saw them on the SFTD tour. While they were really good back on the SFTD tour at the various shows I saw, you could really tell that they've now been back together for 10 years. They were spot on, and extremely tight. I can't think of anything that went wrong; it was a perfect show.
The guys really seemed into the gig as well. Joey was really interacting with the crowd well and made a couple trips out into the audience as well as into the balcony of the venue. The usually understated John Norum also seemed more engaging than he usually is. He was smiling a lot and looked to be having a really good time. John, Mic, & Ian were all in top form, but we all know most of the attention is on Joey and John N.
The only thing I am disappointed about is that since their tour is so short, I can't make any of the other dates that are relatively close to me this weekend, due to schedule conflicts.
Ian posted on his FB page last night that he promises that it won't be 10 years before they are back again. I hope that's the case; I remember similar comments from the guys 10 years ago.
Finally, I was unable to stick around after the show to try and get any pictures or meet the guys. I had met them a couple times on the SFTD tour. Like everyone, you can always complain that there are a couple songs you'd rather hear in place of others, the collective....why is Sign of the Times still in the set question, but overall it was my best Europe concert experience.
