The recent issue of Sweden Rock Magazine has a really good interview with Joey and John Norum about the past, present and future of EUROPE. One page is devoted to Norum's time with Eddie Meduza and one especially interesting part concerns "Boyazont":
On Eddie's album Garagetaper (Garage tapes) from 1980 there's a song called "Reaktorn läck i Barsebäck" (The reactor is leaking in Barsebäck). How come the guitar melody was used again three years later in the instrumental "Boyazont" on EUROPE's debut album?
"Thomas (Witt, John Norum's stepfather) played a demo recorded by Eddie. He said, 'Eddie isn't going to use this. He's wondering if you might want to record it instead.' I thought it was a cool melody, so we decided to record it with EUROPE. The difference is that we rocked it up a lot. At the end there is a part with a guitar solo and double bass drumming, which I added. I can't remember if there were harmonies on the original."
What does "Boyazont" mean?
"I was living with a girl whose name was Susanne Boya. She was really happy about this little tribute to her. I don't remember where we got 'zont' from, but that's the sort of idea you come up with when you're a little teenybopper."
