My review about "WAR OF KINGS" for MAXMETAL Web

" ... Few bands have managed to survive so well to a break and being the owners of an almost global anthem, but EUROPE did it and in a brilliantly way. Since their return in 2004, with all the original members of the band have continued to evolve in a masterly way delving into a rock at times darker how their two fabulous first albums from the meeting "Start from the dark" and "Secret Society" the very well welcomed " Last look at Eden "and its touch-laden blues" Bag of Bones ". Their music is pure classic rock with influences from the 70s and its strong point are their concerts, a Joey Tempest in top form leads a band that runs like clockwork precision class and talent show in every performance on stage. And now surprise us with their tenth album "WAR OF KINGS" you will be captivated is a journey.
The album begins with "WAR OF KINGS" the court title track and first single is an epic song, where Joey shows his magnificent voice from the first note, not a killer chorus but a beautiful melody that hooks you from the first time you hear it, is elegant, grabs you as you go along and then appears the solo of Norum that as is always at an outstanding level.The second cut is "HOLE IN MY POCKET" reminds me of the magnificent "The Beast" album "Last Look at Eden" is a song that hits you nonstop from start to finish. Ian Haugland is a drummer with great punch demonstrates here his great worth. It is followed by "SECOND DAY" one of those songs that the current EUROPE gives us full of interesting nuances, Joey begins very content with his voice much less torn than the previous "Bag of Bones" and the song goes crescendo. With only three songs have already shown their expertise. "PRAISE YOU", we continue with a very compact band and with many corners in their songs for enjoyment Norum plucking at the end of this song is beautiful. "CHILDREN OF THE MIND" classic rock placed at the talent of these musicians and "RAINBOW BRIDGE" has a very cool ethnic roll that is appreciated in this moment in the cd. "ANGELS (WITH BROKEN HEARTS)" is the ballad of the album, a whisper song, do not expect anything like "Carrie" nothing to do with that kind of cake ballad to which we are accustomed in the past, "LIGHT IT UP"pace again, is nearing the end and we are able to detect the melodies of some songs already in a first listening you have stuck. And only in the Deluxe Edition, probably the crown jewel, the great "VASASTAN" is the instrumental of John Norum, a luxury, exquisite one that reminds me of the unforgettable "Shimmering Highs" this musician who has fed teachers as Gary Moore is able to show here excellence, not only due to its technical quality but its ability to tell stories to his guitar, his solos have souls.
