It's a bit early maybe... ...But 2016 will be the 30th anniversary of TFC. And not only ! It'll be the 10th anniversary of the album "Secret Society", too ! What would be your dreamed celebration of these 2 events ? If Europe make a special show, I hope they'll play some SS songs they never palyed before. I'd like so much to hear "Human after all" live !!! Concerning TFC, I have another idea. I once saw a video of Joey Tempest playing TFC at the piano, on a very soft way. (I think it was in some documentary about the song TFC...**) And it was so beautiful ! So, why Europe wouldn't do a cover of TFC like this : after all, there're sooooo many people making covers of tfc -and most of the time bad covers ! It would be a normal thing for Europe to make a cover of their own main song. But then, a very different and creative cover, of course. Some years ago, I was in the USA, and I saw on the tv Bon Jovi singing a very quiet version of their song "it's my life". It had become an awesome ballad. Europe could do the same thing with TFC. **I think it was one of your videos on youtube, Stein maybe this one : at 5:35 ?

I expect big celebrations for this anniversary. Even if I'm more concentrated on the new material I'm excited about all the possible events that could be organized to properly celebrate it. About the idea of releasing a cover of TFC my opinion is opposite to yours, dear guesswho? . Please, please, please, no more cover! Last time it was a disaster! Tunz, tunz, tunz You know, that song is just perfect as it is. No one could make it better, not even Europe themselves.

Tunz, tunz, tunz You know, that song is just perfect as it is. No one could make it better, not even Europe themselves. I agree with you on 2 points, ent : -TFC is just perfect as it is -The last cover of it they did was a disaster (probably the worst thing done by Master Tempest, who is usually so gifted in everything he does...) However... I'm a bit surprised by this categorical "no" from you, dear ent . I thought you'd be more curious about how EUROPE could renew their anthem. Like you, I prefer new material, of course. But I remember how, recently, they changed the song "Prisoner in paradise", which I used to consider as a kind of "soup-like" insipid song, into a great and moving song. Why not this kind of thing with TFC ? Anyway, the difference between PIP and TFC is that the second one was awesome since the beginning. The strenght of TFC comes from 3 points, IMO : 1) The majestic chorus (and intro) underlined by the kind of "trumpet" sound that Mic provided on his synthe. 2) The "gallop" rythm created by Ian, so exciting. 3) The beautiful melody written by the young Mr Tempest. For a new version, The first and second point would not be there anymore, inevitably. Only would remain the melody. So, I'm curious about what Europe could do with this melody on a diffrent style, more emotional (like Bon Jovi for "it's my life", or many other bands did...). Finally, it's not a cover I'm waiting for. It's more a new song, with a well-known melody. Convinced , dear ent ?

No, sorry But I see your point. It's true that the melody in that song is catchy and could be renew in many interesting ways. And the three points you mentioned are among the secret ingredients of a succesful receipt. But they are not the only ones. As Joey stated in that documentary you linked in the other thread, everything in that song seems to "click" together in a special way. It's the anthemic fanfare intro, the gallopping drums, the melody, but also an incredible guitar solo, an epic chorus, the voice of Joey that in the chorus is as high as the sky (I never heard anything like that, really), the background vocals and so on... The only weak point IMO are the lyrics, probaly too naive. But also those lyrics join very well with the general atmosphere of the song. It's not that I'm not curious, you know I am a lot. But in any good receipt the ingredients must be properly measured, otherwise you can make big disasters. It's plenty of covers of TFC out there. I refuse to link the infamous one but there's the blue version: (nice mood but failing in epicness); The unplugged: (groovy, but still not great as the original); The black version (epic enough but the vocals...); The tango version (romantic, nice voice but, come on, that doesn't work!) And then ukulele and kazoo, cellos, harmonic...what ever. But the original TFC still flies above, beautiful and inaccessible. The cover that I personally prefer is this one by London Symphony Orchestra: (hope the link works). It's as epic as the original with that violin riff that is really awesome. But it's instrumental so, something's missing anyway. Did I convince you, friend?

Wonderful research work about TFC and its impact on the world of music On the covers I have to say: "The Blue Version" may be "The Final Countdown" or "One" by U2 or "Love Bites" by Dep Leppard, ... I've needed more than a minute for to realize that it was TFC "The unplugged Version" I don't like much but I'm excited with the start when Joey says: "Once upon a time" (if I remember correctly ..) I love that moment. "The Black Version" the beginning is quite similar but when they start to sing sorry but I feel "Fear" ... what a voice ! OMG "The tango Version" LOL, Ok the girl sings The Final Countdown, but I think that she would have been dancing the same with any other song, the important thing is her almost hypnotic dancing. "The London Symphony Orchestra" My favourite, sounds really good ... but probably for the new season of Game of Thrones, as background music. I think it's exciting: 30 years of "The Final Countdown" !! To have the band in a great moment is a celebration in itself and probably the only one. Because friends! We all know our band, I love them but to do "anniversary parties" is not their forte . I don't think we'll have any cover or press release, or special activity, but I am still happy because TFC is the album of my life, the culprit for discover this band and we all are here 30 years later supporting them, people from all around the world (Don't you think this enough celebration? Surely yes) Sorry, I've taken some disappointments and am perhaps very little optimistic about the celebrations of part to the band ... but not from this forum: and we will celebrate it, we have time to think, some sort of virtual party "30th anniversary TFC" or some thread as the thread of "The Battle" ... something we have to do friends

An autobiography would do the trick. All the ups and downs in their career so far, what their comeback meant and how are they holding up in today's crazy music business, little more info on the recording processes of the new albums and stuff like that. I would give my last money to buy that kind piece of paper... And yeah, no more covers and parodies xD Nowadays, their talent is way too bigger, compared to bands from their era. I'm happy for it.

An autobiography would be VERY welcome indeed! Also a deluxe edition of TFC album would be very nice and welcome. But please please please let them make it a 2cd version. So you have the original album on disc 1 and all the other stuff on disc 2. Leave the legacy intact and don't destroy it by putting songs after Love chaser! The only exception maybe is On broken wings. As I think it should've been included on the album from the start. As for the extra's on disc 2 I like it to have a complete concert from TFC tour with Norum. The only risk is that they put the Solna show on it. Which would be a shame because we already have that one. The other option is that they finally release the complete Hammersmith show on dvd. But since Kee was in the band at that time I don't see it happening.
