Album: BAG OF BONES, (Review) Review: Felicity Hall SOURCE: GET YOUR ROCK OUT! (UK)
" ... I just can’t believe how much I’ve enjoyed this album. It’s been on pretty much permanent repeat in the car, and normally there’s no way I don’t get bored of an album within a few hearings back-to-back. The band themselves have said that this album is the most personal one they’ve done, and that shines through on every single track on it. There’s nothing even close to a weak track on here, and for a band that have been going a fair few years to bring out an album that is so consistently good is a joy to hear... "
" ... People really need to suspend their cynicism for just a few bars – that’s all it will take anybody to realise just what a find this album is. There are always going to be people who refuse to see Europe as anything more than a ‘one hit wonder’, but they’re the ones losing out – this is a band that have produced something a hell of a lot better than a lot of stuff that’s being brought out..."
"... The album is full of soul, and if you’re into your rock and your blues then you won’t be able to help falling in love with every part of this album. It perfectly blends the best of both genres into something that just defies belief, and if I had to pick an album to be my top of the year so far it’d be this one, hands down. If you don’t listen to this album, it’s probably the biggest music-related mistake you’ll make all year. And I don’t say that lightly…" getyourrockout.co.uk/wp/album-reviews/album-reviews/europe-bag-of-bones/

Album: BAG OF BONES, (Review) Reviewed by: UG Team, SOURCE: ULTIME-GUITAR.COMSound: RATE (8) " ... Europe did the unexpected and went on an 11 year hiatus. And then like a dying sun, exploded into a supernova that belted out the hard and heavy influences that formed the band they are today ..." "... That classic 80's sounding Europe was long gone, and replaced with a symbolically heavier, modern sound..." "..."Riches To Rags", is also easily my favorite off the album, as lead vocalist Joey Tempest brings back his signature, higher pitched vocals to help turn this song and the entire album into an instant masterpiece. Those classic, defining backup vocals that commanded the band's earlier efforts return to reign over the chorus of this song, as well as help set the sound for the entire album..." Lyrics: RATE (9)
" ..."Bag Of Bones" features a flawless effort from every member of Europe, but one of the most notable improvements has to be Joey Tempest's dynamic vocals. This album shows Tempest hitting those lung-bursting high notes that have been vacant from Europe's past few studio releases..." "..."Bag Of Bones" also marks the return of those distinctive synthesizers superiorly played by Mic Michaeli, which reminds listeners of the vintage sound that coated the band's earliest albums..." " ...The cultivating rhythm work of Ian Haugland and John Leven, and the astonishing lead guitar performance given by John Norum all take part in making this album a force to be reckoned with..." " ...The bewildering execution given by Europe and Kevin Shirley you'll find prominently slathered throughout this nonstop 40 minute thrill ride is no doubt due to a sum of all its parts..."
Overall Impression: RATE (9)
" ... "Bag Of Bones" marks a vigorous return to the classic Europe sound the world has been eagerly awaiting for, but this time it dominantly boasts a heavy, blues rock flavor..."
" ..."Bag Of Bones" is a truly terrific album from beginning to end, and has more than enough great material to make it a worthy fit into your music collection. As lead vocalist Joey Tempest best put it, "It took some time but WE HAVE ARRIVED!". ..."

Album: BAG OF BONES, (Review) Reviewed by Mark Redmayne (May 2012) SOURCE: SLEAZE ROXX" ... Bag Of Bones is everything I dared to hope for -- a multi-layered affair that I'm still peeling back even after several weeks of listening. Europe and producer Kevin Shirley have reintroduced the lost art of the 'slow burner' -- one of those albums that you know you'll still be coming back to for years to come..."
" ..."Riches To Rags" serves up an immediate dose of Norum's driving riffery behind Joey Tempest's sparkling tones..."
"...Drink And A Smile" is simply sublime ..."
"...So what have we got here? More infectious riffs than many guitarists would crank out in a lifetime, a rhythm section that swings as much as it thunders, and a vocalist that delivers passion, authenticity and a range of tones that make each and every track a killer. Whilst many of their contemporaries fail to deliver beyond nostalgia, Europe have achieved the unimaginable..."
