Now can I ask something? I've noticed that Mic isn't playing the opening riff to TFC on stage anymore from the youtube videos lately. Is there a reason for that? I kind of felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, finding out that the Great and Powerful Oz was only a man behind the curtain...a bit of disappointment for me because this is "The Riff" and shouldn't it be played rather than sampled? And if he's not going to play it, at least mime like he is playing it? It's a bit disconcerting to watch him drink from a bottle of water or checking on his keyboard controls while the song is starting... Not to nit-pick...just my humble opinion. I don't think Mic has ever played the full intro to "The Final Countdown" live. In 1986-90 and 1999 he would play the last couple of notes in the intro, the ones right before the drum fill, live, but other than that, it was just the intro tape. Example: Sidenote: When they went out on the first tour in 2004, they had re-recorded the last part of the intro, and they've used that ever since. Listen: You can hear that the keyboards in the re-recorded part sound slightly different compared to the original sound.

Hey "gemaim" do you remeber TOCATA ? Maybe you're more young than me , I remeber this performance: It was really great!! Enjoy a lot your travel, and the concerts of "our heroes" and "Bruce", we look forward to your reports (of both shows) and please leave your vote to ent! is very important !! I'd swear that the first time I saw Europe was in that kitsch program "Entre amigos". You know, its been a long time since that, but I'm almost sure the next time I saw them was in Tocata and I had my video recorder ready. And, no, definitely Im not youger than you, because of something I read by you (maybe when you recalled the TFC times) I think we are moreless the same. I've just turned the corner of forty last week. Enjoy your gig in Madrid, it's a great show with three great bands (even I prefer the two first but Leppard is always a party). Waiting for read your chronicle.

I'm bummed that Treated bad again didn't make it higher, it's a personal favorite for me. I agree on that (it's a personal favorite of mine too): Treated bad again has really been treated bad again Just for the records: I checked the situation and found out that the votes from Tone Irene wouldn't have changed the final result of the selected songs from Wings of tomorrow (it would have only avoided the tie break). Her votes on the "Europe" album are also in line with the results we have found: there would have been a tie break among "In the future to come", "The king will return" and "Children of this time". But if we consider the verdict from the jury, the result, in the end, would have been the same. It's a bit confused, I know, but I would sum it up as an happy ending again.

Thanks Stein!!! Your examples show it clearly -- I think I never really paid attention to it until I saw him drinking the water and it was one of those "Hey wait a minute" moments... I remember reading a fan interview with Joey, where the interviewer kept on insisting that they should try to play the intro live, and Joey said it would be difficult because the intro consists of at least 10 different keyboards. Then the interviewer suggested that Joey and Mic could both have keyboards and play the intro live together. I think Joey just laughed and said something like "Yeah, maybe one day."

The Final Countdown The FAMOUS album where the title track made me know Europe! It's not my favorit album but I appreciate it a lot.
My selection :
The Final Countdown Ninja Cherokee Heart Of Stone On The Loose Love Chaser
I like this game because we choose only the songs that we really love and not the hit songs.
Thanks Wastelake

Then the interviewer suggested that Joey and Mic could both have keyboards and play the intro live together. I think Joey just laughed and said something like "Yeah, maybe one day." When I first read what you said there, Stein, I thought Joey was having one on the interviewer, but then I remembered this article, re-read it and now I think I understand what he is saying a bit better after reading what a TX-816 is... This quote taken from www.musicplayers.com/features/bands_general/2006/1206_Europe.php"MPc: First things first – every keyboard player, even today, wants to know what synths were used to create the famous lead sound from “The Final Countdown.” Mic: It was a Yamaha rack thing, the TX-816, it was basically eight DX-7s in a module, together with a Roland JX-8P. I made a brassy sound from the JX-8 and used a factory sound from the Yamaha, and just layered them together. It’s a very special sound. I haven’t been able to create it on any other synth since then, so now when I play it live, I just sampled that sound and use that as the “Final Countdown” sound." So okay...I'm not that disappointed anymore; my apologies to Mic - and to ent for going a bit off topic here...

I didn't see any off topic. You're free playing on TFC and it perfectly suits the moment. Besides, the interview you posted was very interesting!

So, dear friends, the voting session on The final countdown is closed. As usual I thank you all for your astonishing participation . As Bertrand Russel once said: “the only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation” and you have just shown the deeper meaning of these words (actually, before I’m called intellectual again –once per thread is enough- , I confess I quoted him after the movie Shaun of the dead, a cult funny/horror movie that I recommend). And here are the results: 1. Heart of stone: 10 votes 2. Cherokee: 10 votes 3. The final countdown: 9 votes 4. Ninja: 8 votes 5. Rock the night: 7 votes 6. On the loose: 7 votes7. Love chaser: 6 votes 8. Carrie: 4 votes 9. Danger on the track: 4 votes 10. Time has come: 1 vote
So first the good news: we don’t need a tie-break! The first six songs made it directly to phase 3. I am quite surprised by On the loose. I didn’t expect that it would have passed. Sad, but somehow expected: we have lost Carrie and Danger on the track. And now the bad news (at least for me): Love chaser! Oh, how could we do that? I’m going leave this game now! No, just kidding. And now I’m really pleased to open the voting session on Out of this world (1988). This is going to be really difficult. This album consists of 12 songs and this means we will have to discard half of them. The fight will be really hard since here we have many beautiful tracks. Be sure to deliver your vote because something tells me that every single vote will be important. Your song needs your help! The tracklist: 1. Superstitious 2. Let the good times rock 3. Open your heart 4. More than meets the eye 5. Coast to coast 6. Ready or not 7. Sign of the time 8. Just the beginning 9. Never say die 10. Lights and shadows 11. Tower’s callin 12. Tomorrow The rules, quickly: 1. pick your favorite six from OOTW 2. this session will close on Friday 28/06 at 22:003. any registered user can vote (even if they haven’t voted before) and join the discussion. Are you still not registered? No panic, do it now! It’s easy, free and funny (oh man, I speak like an advertisement for a ringtones site ). 4. the first time you vote you receive an original and certified “warm welcome in the thread” TM, (now this is what I call an opportunity! ) 5. relax, listen to some good music and have fun! So let’s take a ride on the time machine. Date: 9th august 1988. Location: Out of this world
