What's your experience in past Europe's gigs? Are they allowed? I guess they can't help almost everyone having a smartphone with a camera, to record also videos... What about bigger devices? Do they check at the entrance?
I am really passionate about recording every bit of my life that I think it's worthwhile to keep for my later years... Still I am confused if to bring the camcorder with me as I want to enjoy the experience of a Europe's gig without too much concern about recording...but I know myself...then I will regret not to bring it all home!
Just to know if the effort to bring the device with me is nonsense or not. Furthermore, I see many takes from the audience published on youtube...is this fully illegal? ...also depending whether they prohibit camcorders at the entrance or not, I suppose...
I have attended Paul McCartney's gig in my city recently, they didn't checked the bags, almost everybody had got professional huge equipments to record the show...
Thanks for your opinions!

It's usually forbidden to bring "pro" camcorders/cameras and record audio/video at concerts/gigs and most venues check for "pro" versions of cameras and camcorders. But as you can see people are good at sneaking in cameras any way and all they can do is to tell you to stop recording IF they see you record. And many ppl that work on the venues don't really care if you record or not. More information is printed on the back of the tickets or you get extra information with your tickets. Read them carefully. And now adays the camcorders are so small and easy to hide. But IF your really want to record...sneak it in and start recording. Nothing harm with that... it is for your personal use. That's my own opinion...and I'll stick with it no matter what!

Personally i find filming at gigs ruins the experience slightly, as you concentrate so much more on filming than acctually watching/enjoying the show, and often because of all the noise/people bumping you about, the video's usually dont turn out brilliant anyway
Plus, you'll usually find lots of video's on youtube afterwards anyway

And you're not always sure to find videos of the shows on youtube. it depends of the country in fact : Italians or Chileans are very good "sharers", they film and post many videos. But I've observed that if the show is in some other countries, like Finland or Norway, for example (unless Stein-Vidar is in the audience ) you have big chances not to find any video on the web after it !!! Then, it's better to make your own souvenir if you want one... My experience, Michaela, is that it's difficult to film with a camera if you're in the front rows : then it's better to film with your phone. Every time I've taken my little camera, it was easy to enter the venue with it. But afterwards, I had several different experiences. Where I've managed to film, it was when I was on the balconies : then, the guards couldn't do anything to stop me. But i remember that in a Norwegian show, he was always putting his hand in front of my camera to prevent me from filming. The worst was in England : the guard (an awful man !) forced me to leave the show to give my camera at the entrance !!! And therefore, I missed completely "The Beast" !

Thank you all for your very good advices! I'll think about it...since I have booked many concerts already probably I will start in a "light" way and then I will see along the way.
The smartphone will be with me anyway!

I totally agree.. filming the entire show ruins the marvellous experience of BEING in the show. But filming your ultimate favorite song in the whole show, or something, doesn't ruin too much. I always film No Stone Unturned It's THE experience for me The rest of the show I just go crazy

I remember you were the very first to tell this on the official ETB forum. It was some years ago ; I didn't have attended any Europe show yet, so the videos shared on youtube were a kind of "vital necessity" for me. And when I read your post, then I thought : "What ! She doesn't want to share with other fans ? She's a rather selfish person !" :-X Yes, that's what I thought then. But afterwards, I went myself at Europe concerts for true, and then I understood what you meant !!! PaulW : It wasn't a sarcasm : I totally agree with you !
