I really can't imagine it. And while I really like the post-reunion albums, it wouldn't feel right to have a show without any old material at all. But at the same time I kinda understand that they've considered it. They now have nine studio albums to pick material from, so it gets tougher and tougher to make a setlist, especially since they usually play no more than 17, 18 songs at each show.

Well, it would help a great deal if they skipped the drum solo, dropped out let the good times rock, carrie, rock the night and sign of the times, for example... Then they could add a few Start from the dark songs... But TFC needs to STAY. Otherwise we'd have a riot  |

When I think about it... Back in 2004, at my second Europeshow at Rockefeller, I had almost forgotten The final countdown when they played it. It was THAT good  For ME, I don't really need The Final Countdown. For like ONE concert it would be ok... but, that was the song that started it all for me So I'm really happy everytime I hear the intro live.. but after the intro it just gets exhausting, with the audience going bananas, so I have to struggle not to be squashed or anything |

In Fireworks Magazine interview, Joey add more details about changes on the setlist for the upcoming tour (Europe own shows, not festivals):
..."We’ve been waiting for that threshold, we’ve been waiting for that moment for the last couple of years and they’ll be a moment when we drop or change all the songs and do a new type of performance, of feeling, of mood of the show, because we’re getting there. I don’t know whether it’s going to be this autumn or not, definitely not at the festivals this summer, you know, if people are out for a good time we’ll play certain songs certain ways but I think there will be a moment. Maybe autumn is the time, maybe it’s time, coz this album is sort of defining that we’ll never go back again so what’s the point. This is it. We’re stretching ourselves in a new way. This will be a good moment for Europe and that’s a very good question. We’ve discussed that. Whether it’s going to be this autumn or not? I don’t know. There’s a good chance. It’s possible...it’s possible...”
"We’re not far off the ten years. It’s more of a feeling and it’s very interesting that you raised the question, it’s more a feeling that we have. Even our management, the people around us have been harping on now for years and we’re still playing certain songs certain ways and everything. I would love, and you can hear that in the attitude of ‘Riches To Rags’, ‘Not Supposed...’ that attitude that we are strong the way we are, doing it our way, therefore, turning everything upside down, this is our new show and it may be the moment, I hope it is the moment for the UK shows in November to do this. It’s a good opportunity to change things around quite radically..."
About dropping TFC:
"No. We love the song. It’s an album track for us. For us it’s just an emotional album track that we thought was interesting, we’ve always enjoyed playing. It has just always taken on a big meaning that we can’t even go there, you know. No, there’s gonna be a lynching if we don’t play it the right way, but there may be a moment, a break point, where things can be done differently..."

Personally i wouldnt be too bothered if they didnt play it, i've seen it live before. But i would feel gutted for other people there. I cant see it getting dropped anytime soon, it may annoy the hell out of them but at the end of the day it IS their biggest hit, its made them a lot of money and its still a popular song that im sure attracts new fans

I am absolutely opposed to the idea that they should stop playing TFC. It's an important part of the identity of the band, and their history. However, i think it would be worth varying its position in the set-list sometimes, and even maybe having it as the OPENING song

For me "TFC" is a perfect end for a Europe's concert. What is the problem of this song? But if the band has a need to leave it behind, it seems me ok but not good idea. Thinking carefully about the words of Joey, I think he has too big a need to break with the past, now they are seeing a path to greater recognition and who believe that to walk this path should lead to a hard cut. Sounds good if it makes them happy but I hope not leave behind things, that have always done great to this band.

I agree Joey and the band after him are doing all the possible and impossible to evolve and keep themselves moving on. This is admirable, as we all find more comfortable to stick on what we do so well and what we know how to do so well. ...but he is Scandinavian, as he himself admitted. This is the fundamental element that adds a soul to this band. All through the Bag of Bones album you can find tracks of their past, whether it is in the musical influences or it is up to a few lines in the lyrics. The "early years" are very central in Bring It All Home. They know it and most of all, Joey knows it very well in his heart. I shouldn't speak like I know what he feels but sorry, there's such a clear impression I derive from the new album. The Requiem (for the 80's)...all this stuff just demonstrates that their past is the very heart of them. Which I personally think it is exactly like it should be. You don't have to renegate your past, as it made you be what you are today and give you the possibility to go further. I belong to the people who have never attended a Europe gig. Hopefully I will be very soon in Wetzitkon first and then in Orebro. I can confirm I would love to listen to TFC live at least 1 time in my life. And that I can listen to it at every gig after the first one because it's such a special song and it created the legend of these 5 wonderful guys. I can only suppose that for them it will be even harder to drop it. Again for Joey in particular because he wrote it. Understand he is struggling with his past, but I see also that they are using TFC a lot to promote their new album, which is good to me. They have to recall the legend because this helps in people's minds. I will never get tired of listening to The Final Countdown. This band deserves a lot more than he got so far. |

Totally agree with you Michaela ... All albums are linked, we must move forward knowing lived with our past. But Joey is too incisive with the search of this new era, I hope that it does not mean denying his past.
Many bands would love to have a song like TFC, and the great energy of this song for finish their concerts ... No matter how many times you have heard it, is an amazing song.
