I dont think he's sad,he has no reasons for that. It's just a point of view that comes with ages, I know that wery well cause I'm the same age as Joey. You don't see the world with pink sunglasses no more. There is so much bad things going around.and it's normal that Joey put it in his lyrics.Bur, sometimes we need to escape from ugly reality and hear something diferent. Joey was always a litlle melancholic, and I allways tought he is romantic too,but wasn't sure is it possible for rock star to bee like that.I'm glad Michaela that you have the same opinion, espesially you met him.

In this interview , JTempest speaks about his writing process, and it can explain many things about Firebox lyrics : www.rock-zone.co.uk/2012/11/05/joey-tempest-from-europe-talks-to-rock-zone-uk/" Do you write in Swedish and then translate or do you “think†in English now? I haven’t lived in Sweden for 25 years now. I think “Bag of Bones†was the first record where the lyrics came completely automatic….Written purely from an English-speaking/thinking mans perspective. What/where does the inspiration for the songs come from? Oh dear! Everywhere! But funny enough often from the actual chords and attitude/mood of the riffs." So, we're learning 2 things here : -1), he "thinks" his lyrics in English now : and maybe that's why it's a bit less subtle than formerly... -2) the words come after the music, they follow the riff. (and IMO it's the true explanation...) So, when the music is composed in the studio, like it was the case for several BOB songs, then JTempest must write the lyrics very quickly : no time for complicated things... AND, I must underline something here : It's difficult (and almost impossible) to keep your inspiration and creativity the same when it's about writing : -there're times when everything flows easily, you just have so many things to say ! -and there're times when it's just so boring ! a real suffer. And then, you just go to the essential : writing words that will fit the music and will have a good tempo and vibe... Like in Firebox. That's what is happening nowadays to JT, I think. He's in a phase where, after having written so many passionnating things, he needs a kind of "rest" of his creativity. But personnaly, I hope it won't impead EUROPE from doing other CDs, and that they won't wait, for making other albums, until JT feels the desire for excellent lyrics again.!!! BETTER A NEW ALBUM WITH POOR LYRICS BUT GREAT MUSIC THAN THE CONTRARY ! And to make things clear : about Jtempest "tiredness" ; I believe he is "tired" of writing new things - which is natural. But he's not "Tired" at all of performing on stage. He's probably never have been so good previously !!! He's at his top, now.

I don't know, I've listened BOB many times, but still I find its lyrics discontinuous and not very imaginative. E.g. you can find a reference to graves in 2 songs out of 10 while the "captain's hook" recalls me the "captain of the ship" of Gonna Get Ready... but I perceive a general lack of feeling: or, rather, not all songs seem to have been written under the push of a creative urgency and it makes me sorry. The whole album seems to be a patchwork of old lyrics recovered from the previous works and random ideas assembled under the need of putting together the new record... I like the impassioned words of Bag Of Bones, the sadness of Bring It All Home, but... I miss the strenght of the strophes of SS and LLAE, and like guesswho I also think that refrains like that of Human After All are perfectly built, in it you can understand anything and identify yourself in the words whoever you are, and they won't let your mind anymore... Yes, I'm also homesick for the dreamy tales of king and queens Joey wandered with at night, for the fierce boys populating his fancies, for those imaginary worlds he was so able to create... but he and I are not young people anymore and he wouldn't be very believable if he wrote those things today. I hope Joey will find again his own style he used before BOB, so that Europe can keep being a safe place to dream and have a rest from our worries...

When BOB was just out, some people said it was better than LLAE. I thought lets give it some time, and see how I feel about it, because it didn't grab me from first listening, like LLAE or SFTD. Many people here expressed in details what they like or don't like about BOB, but if I have to use one word to describe the album, I will "borrow" your word Vicky, "patchwork". that's exactly how I feel about the album, a mixture of random patches, a bag of randomly put together bones, so the title makes sense... I can't say I completely dislike or like a lot the album, or even one song or the other. With some songs - I like half of them and not the other half, or like the music, but not lyrics... or opposite. It's really strange mixed feeling Some patches or combination of patches are really good for me, some ... not. The album gives me mixed feelings. Cheers, Lina

Hey, girls (sorry, but most of us in this thread are girls), I have thought a lot about this "lack of creativity", so I have an idea: I need you to write what Europe means to you, how their music have helped you to move on through difficult situations in life. I have read many stories of some of you who have found "the light" after living in darkness because of a sad or cruel experience. I'd like to share those extremely personal experiences with the band. You don't need to give details of course, I'm interested in the way Europe became your shield against adversity. Well, those who are interested in telling me about their stories, I appreciate to send a personal message here or in fb. Remember you don't need to tell me the problem itself, but how you could go through it with the help of your passion for Europe music. It is just a project. But I think the guys can't imagine how strong we are thanks to their creations and maybe it is the inspiration they need for their next album. Vonny.

Vonny, I think it's really a good and interesting idea! I'll start to reflect and try to write some rational and intelligent things...

Although I think Mr Tempest will not be at all interested in our several experiences in life... unless it's about sex. (Oh, and speaking about this, during the shows in France, JTempest made a lot of obscene gestures during the song Firebox, so that nobody could still have a doubt concerning the real meaning of the lyrics ...)
