Personally, I like better the version of RICHES TO RAGS they played in Wroklaw, than the one of Wetzikon. The beginning was stronger at Wroklaw. At Wetzikon, it sounded so strange... It nearly killed the intro. (But maybe it was a kind of joke for Swiss audience ?)

Well, I love when a show starts with a great intro before the actual song, and LLAE tour had Prelude, an outstanding opener... After watching videos from Wroclaw I felt the lack of a proper intro, so I love the new one they did in Switzerland...

After watching videos from Wroclaw I felt the lack of a proper intro, so I love the new one they did in Switzerland... Of course, Fernanda, I understand your point of view..; But THAT intro was even not a Europe music !!! (and I dare say it sounded rather stupid -in my taste, and only in my taste !) And even when it's a Europe music, I must say that I don't appreciate when the intro is a recorded music, instead of something they are playing live : My philosophy is : I'm not spending tons of money and tiredness in concerts to listen to pre-recorded music that I could hear confortably and for free at home ! The other thing is that when you're in the venue, arriving early to have rather good places, you must wait and wait and wait... And during a long while you hear recorded musics that you don't necessarily enjoy, then you hear the first band, and when FINALLY Europe comes on stage, you're eager to hear THEM, and only them. But this only my opinion. I hope I'm not hurting anyone by telling this !

But THAT intro was even not a Europe music !!! (and I dare say it sounded rather stupid -in my taste, and only in my taste !) it seems you didn't understand the punchline! the intro is some kind of ANTI-WHATYOUEXPECTFROM EUROPE - MUSIC, and that's why it corresponds perfectly with the lyrics of RICHES TO RAGS. IMHO it's directed at the same people who always wonder why they don't do 80s style albums anymore. it's like raising the middle finger...

Yes, I'm not intellectual enough to understand this kind of thing : that's true ! What I know, it's that I prefer Wroklaw version more than Wetzikon one (because in Wetzikon, we couldn't even hear the so awesome beginnning with the bass part! ). And that I don't like prerecorded things in live shows, which for me are a kind of deception. :-X ... And concerning the people who miss 80s Europe music, I think the WHOLE musics they 're playing during the WHOLE show is a sufficient answer...

you don't need to be intellectual to raise your middle finger - just try it out...

Maybe you'll be surprised, europemagnum, but it's not for this kind of thing that I like Europe. (For fingers and things like this, they are not the best in the world : I think some other bands are far more qualified for this kind of message...) In fact, I love Europe because of their music, and because in my opinion they are among the BEST performers in the world. And because they have a lot of class and in the same time are very cool. But what you're writing shows that everybody can find what he likes in their music. And that's great.

Well, as far as I know, they have used prerecorded intros in almost EVERY tour (that it's what gives you the excitement that tells you that it's BEGINNING AT LAST... whoo hoooo!!!). Let's just take a look: WOT Era: a (prerecorded) keyboard intro (which later became the Prisoners in Paradise intro TFC Era: The Final Countdown intro (yeah, it was a recording, they don't play the first part) OOTW Era: a synth and guitar intro (that it's prerecorded also) Prisoners in Paradise: The long intro where someone says "there's a voice out in the wastelands" (I don't know if the voice part was prerecorded, but I'm sure the first part of that intro was) Start From the Dark: "Ladies and gentlement, the biggest rock band ever who came out of Scandinavia, this welcome on stage... Europe" (It was prerecorded) Secret Society: different intros, for example the tape they used to start with Love is Not The Enemy (whose intro was also prerecorded) Last Look at Eden: Prelude (prerecorded)
Bag of Bones is not different IMO, because a show without an intro would be kinda strange, in fact, when I watched the video of Wroklaw, I thought that an intro was missing. Starting a show with just a Tambourine is weird IMO.

other bands are far more qualified for this kind of message...) you don't need to qualify for saying "we rock the way WE WANT, and don't really care about someone's opinion"... THAT'S what the song RICHES TO RAGS is telling. (and maybe the intro is just there that some heavy rock is killing electronic beats...) and just to increase the amount of songs on europefanwagr's list: the intro of "Always the pretenders" was also coming from CD at the gigs. not to forget Rossini's "William Tell Overture" during the drum solo. i think less than 4 minutes of music from tape is acceptable during a 90 min. live show.
