Europe in Paris, Le Trianon, on the 27th sptember 2018.Singing the first notes of
The Final Countdown was the first thing I did on that morning. My husband knew it was time to get up
. After showering, eating, checking our luggages, we took the train for Paris. We arrived at 10:20 am. We have lost 1 hour walking the wrong way
. 11:30 am, we were queuing. Finally
. Some people were already there, maybe 20 more or less. We've met some nice people there. The weather was hot and the wait loooooooooong
It was quite surrealistic for me to be there, to talk about the band.
My first time ever... a fantasy was becoming real... a bit like the fourth dimension
.
The gates opened at 6:30. We rushed and reached first row just in front of John Levèn. My husband to my left and a 10 year old (Europe fan) boy on my right with his father. The vibes were good around.
The support band,
King King was stunning and energic. The singer has a beautiful voice
. My thought is the audience liked them a lot. They played with us a bit and we sang.
How can I describe the intense emotion I've felt inside when they came on stage ? ? ? ?
They just blow up the audience which was on fire as I was.
Walk The Earth, then
The Siege and.... Joey came in front of us to offer a pick to the 10 year old boy ! That was so so sweet from him !
He handshaked my husband too and touched my hand
! (sorry, that's a fan girl moment....
). After that, they played
Rock The Night still in a forcefull way
. Joey tried to speak French and said "Putain de public" (sentence
Indochine, a famous French band, says frequently and which means "Bloody audience" in a flaterry way). That was funny ^^. I must say I'm unable to tell what was the setlist in the right way (same as Brighton), I was burning in that fire Europe lit that night. I was in that world I dream decades ago and totally lost myself in the ambience the band created. Maybe I'm right if I talk about symbiosis with the audience.
John Levén smiled a lot, made signs with us, very communicative. I got two picks from him
. We were happy to be there but we could feel it was the same for them and it's really heartwarming
. Joey recorded John Norum's solo of
The Final Countdown, the audience, himself. I could feel he enjoyed being there.
From a personal point of view, I thought Turn To Dust would be my "crying" song. I was wrong. Totally wrong. I didn't realised at that moment the importance of The Final Countdown and what impact it had on me the first I heard it 32 years ago. As for many other people I assume, this song is the climax song, the song they have to play at the end of the set. From the beginning to the end of the song, my feet didn't touch the ground, carried by some kind of magic...
Watching it live on the internet is one thing, living it is losing control and reaching surrealism.
After the show, we bought merch, talked to King King who are really nice people, took pictures, drank a bit and went back to the hotel.
The end
(I took some pictures I'll share soon)
