Hey guys. I just wanted to tell you that a rarity happened on a radio station near me this morning, at 7:48AM North American Eastern Daylight Time, and I'll let you read about it to the message I sent to that station's Facebook page. =)
'Hello, Boom 97.3 FM Toronto.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario, for the record, and this morning, at 7:48AM, during Stu Jeffries morning show today, I heard something I thought I'd NEVER, EVER hear on ANY Canadian radio station.
For the 1st time in my life, I heard the FULL 5 minute, 9 second album version of the song 'The Final Countdown' by Swedish hard rock band EUROPE.
The reason why it's a special thing to me, is that, from my point of view, EUROPE is a band that is WOEFULLY underplayed on Canadian radio. They've not really been given a lot of exposure here, and I sometimes wish that their full catalogue of songs and albums would be put into slightly larger rotation on Canadian radio stations, so to me, it was a surprise AND a treat to hear Joey Tempest, the lead vocalist and songwriter of that group, belt that one out on your station.
They've also, sadly, never held a full coast-to-coast(-to coast?) Canadian tour, and that's something I REALLY wish would happen for them.
And, it's ALSO not a usual thing to hear that song in it's full album version length. The usual version that plays on most North American radio stations is a 3 minute, 59 second radio version that begins with the 1st drums heard in it.
To you, Boom 97.3, and to Stu Jeffries, who did speak with EUROPE on the former CBC Television program 'Good Rockin' Tonite' in 1987, when Kee Marcello was with them after replacing John Norum on lead guitar, I could NEVER thank you guys enough for putting that on your show.
I will be FOREVER grateful to you for doing that, and giving me that rare radio treat!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! =D
Sincerely, from this humble Canadian EUROPE fan for 20 years,
Ron Mears.
=)'
I heard it in a car I was in, coming back from having some breakfast out today.
What's best about it? It wasn't in the afternoon at 2PM, or late night at 4AM...it was during the Morning Drive, a KEY time slot for radio.
I'll tell you....THAT. WAS. AWESOME! AS! HELL!!! =D
