I didn't like the undertone of the whole thing - like "pff, enough with this TFC or Europe THE BAND hype", but still - it's a simple joke. Little do they know that THE BAND is way ahead of the bands from their era nowadays, still kicking some arse!

It was just a bit of harmless fun. I thought it was a bit funny. The "band" looked like EUROPE from the Prisoners in Paradise era. I actually thought the keyboardist looked a lot like Kee from that era! EUROPE's Facebook page recently posted a press release about this: Press Release: EUROPE at 2016 Eurovision Song Contest – Stockholm Sweden Just to confirm, the 'band' that appeared on the televised first semi final of the 2016 Eurovision song contest in Stockholm on the 10th of May, who claimed to be the band 'Europe', was not the real band. EUROPE had earlier declined to appear at this event. The choice to use a ‘fake’ band was entirely the Swedish production teams choice. We wish everyone good luck on the final this Saturday. I appreciated the elegance and the diplomacy used by the Band and The Management. Yet it's a press release, so an official statement and not a plain FB post saying "hey, look at this funny joke about us!" Evidently some people at Swedish TV are not very sensible and didn't even advise the real band in advance, which would have been the correct procedure in order to agree about the joke and the type of "image" that would have aired. Our Director of the Nordic Countries - in the Company I work for - was in our offices in Bologna yesterday and came to me saying that EUROPE had made a weird appearance for a contest on Swedish television because "they stayed on just for a few seconds"! I was completely flying blind with that, but now it's all clear and evidently even in the Nordic some people confused the fake band to be the right one! These aspects should be neither over-considered nor even neglected... EUROPE did the right thing IMO, an elegant statement to clarify the WORLD - not only their own Country - WHO they actually are!

I agree with both of you, Stein and Michaela Italy: harmless and funny joke, elegant and appropriate reply.

If someone tells you the situation, and say that twice came a band imitating Europe and playing TFC in Eurovision, a priori sounds bad, at least for us, the most loyal fans, but really if you see the whole show, not thus, it was fun, nothing offensive, ... the idea that I think they wanted to move throughout the show was to teach the strengths of Sweden in a fun way, at another time of the gala made a satire on the position of Sweden country in Europe laughing at themselves as the man who represented Sweden was gray and was heckled by an Italian guy LOL ... at another point a joke about ABBA with a change in its name in the beginning of the band , ... but suddenly the country opt for music, power of the music and Sweden becomes a benchmark in Europe, is very cool ... I like the idea. No confusion was possible, the alleged gang EUROPE came out a few seconds and saw that they were not! I understand that being the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm and when the presenter said WELCOME EUROPE! LOL ... the organizers think in our beloved band ... at that time 5 guys imitating EUROPE !!! and the presenter appears saying: hey! no no is EUROPE The Continent! no EUROPE The band! ... LOLTotally harmless,

The Eurovision final in Stockholm has just ended. Congratulations to Ukraine for winning! During the final they showed a video called "42 years of Swedish music in 4 minutes" or something like that. This video featured Swedish stars such as ABBA, Yngwie Malmsteen, Roxette, Ace of Base, The Cardigans... and EUROPE! EUROPE was represented by a clip of "The Final Countdown", of course, with footage from the music video and EUROPE in America.
