So, in between recording original songs in the studio, I got sidetracked and decided to re-record 'The Final Countdown', playing all instruments bar the guitar solo and singing vocals, because even in Eb, it is still to high for me! I've been waiting for a friend to do vocals and put the guitar solo down but I got impatient and sampled the original tracks vocals and guitar solo master tracks. This has been a fun home project to work on in between doing 'serious' work on my own stuff and was a pleasure to play and of course to mix being the special sounding song it is. Created all the synth patches by tinkering around and getting the right 'sounds'. Sold my JX8P years ago so had to try re-create a new lead synth sound. Guitars are straight Yngwie Fender Stratocasters through a mic'd up Marshall Mode Four amp and cab, the way things should be. I did play a slide lead into the famous John Norum guitar solo and harmonised the ending to make it sound kinda cool. Bass was a Fender Steve Harris Precision DI'd into a software instrument amp. soundcloud.com/oraclemusic-co-nz/the-final-countdownNote this is just a fun cover I did in my spare time, not commercial project in any way shape or form.

Thanks all Wish there was a better acapella version of Joey's vocals around, the version I got a hold of sucks big time but I did what I could.

OK, what vocal die you use then? The best available would be the LEGO rockband version. There is another one from TFC 2000 promo remixes if I'm not mistaking.

Also, there is a rumour that there is an acapella version and drums/bass/keyboard version of every TFC album track that was leaked during the TFC 2000 remix sessies but don't know if this is true....

Interesting... There's also some isolated tracks from "Rock the Night", that were ripped from the Nintendo DS game Guitar Hero: On Tour: A guitar track, a bass track and a vocal/keyboard/drums track.

I've updated the vocals with the version from LEGO rockband which was better than the rip I got hold of previously. Sounds much better even though it is wet as hell with reverb and delay. Would love a clean acapella track if one exists! Joeys harmonys are quite something.

I have all the solo tracks from The Final Countdown (SONG), but Joey's vocals are very wet, like the version you have. I don't think you can get your hands on the dry track... I have the guitar track from Rock The Night, but that's all from the album. -I remember the rumors that all the multi tracks was online, but I never found them. Cool that you call your user "Sweet Silence". That was the name of the studio in Copenhagen early 80s where danish producer Flemming Rasmussen recorded the first 3 Metallica albums... -did you samle the keyboards too or is that from somewhere else??? I could use that sound for a song I'm working on.....

That was the name of the studio in Copenhagen early 80s where danish producer Flemming Rasmussen recorded the first 3 Metallica albums... -did you samle the keyboards too or is that from somewhere else??? I could use that sound for a song I'm working on..... All Keyboards, bass, guitar and everything in between (apart from Joey's vocals and Norums guitar solo*) were made/played by myself. Spent quite a while trying to dial in the right keyboard sounds as I made them out of various VST's by editing their parameters and of course layering. Bass was done via DI and an amp in Logic played with my Fender Steve Harris bass. Guitars were with one of my Fender Yngwie Strat's through a Marshall Mode Four MF350 amp and Marshall Mode Four MF400 cab. No post EQ. Im a firm believer that if you know your amp well enough, you don't have to over process it once it has been recorded, it should sound good as it is and apart from a little compression, should be left the hell alone! Sweet Silence was in part inspired by Flemming's former studio, a good 13 odd years ago I remember getting a cool email from him when I was working as an studio engineer as Master of Puppets is in my top 3 favourite albums. Give me a message Michael, I can send you the track without Norums solo (and joeys vocals) and you can put yours over it using TFC strat Bearing in mind it is in Eb. Could also probably help you with that keyboard sound. *I did harmonise the ending of the solo though, as well as put in a string slide at the start as the sampled solo starts pretty harshly without it.
