As we all know the Lyin' eyes single is not only VERY special because it's so hard to find but also because it has a slightly different vocal take on it as well. It is different from the album version as we all know it. The single version is on youtube and you can clearly hear de differences. But not only in the vocals. If my ears don't lie the drums are also different. Could it be that it is a re-recorded version with Ian instead of Tony Reno? Somehow it sounds familiar to the re-recorded Seven doors hotel version. Soundwise that is. But timewise it simply cannot be from the same recording session because together with Seven doors hotel they recorded the 1st versions of On the loose and Rock the night. And that was in 1985. Does anyone has more info about these recordings?

The "Lyin' Eyes" single was released (then quickly withdrawn) in late 1983 (I think it might have been in December), so I doubt Ian played on that version.
However, your suggestion reminds me of something that I read in the unauthorized EUROPE biography Only Young Twice (2011). One of the persons that were interviewed for that book was Peter Olsson, the first bassist in FORCE, and he claimed that the first two EUROPE albums were remixed with a drum machine after Tony was fired.

Interesting. I had an lp of WOT from around 88 from Epic records that clearly had a different mix of Dreamer. I don't think it was a different version but it had a lot of background noice at the piano intro. Haven't heard it ever since..... But if someone would check the original HOT Record releases we must hear the difference if there's another drum track, maybe the background noice is in it as well, but I do believe I checked for differences when I had all those different verslons...

I have the HOT release of Wings so I'll check it out. And about Peter Olsson; with this sort of stories I always go for the 'when there's smoke there's fire' point of view. And ofcourse I'm very curious about those remixed versions. But to be honest I think that if these versions exist that they are safely locked up in the archives.

The Hot Records version of Europe 1 should be the definitive proof don't you think? Or maybe the original 1st press Japan Victor? Thinking about it I think the Japanese Seven Doors Hotel should proof if Peter is right because it is actually a relabeled HOT records single that should be clearly have been released before Tony got fired. I seriously doubt it....
Anywayz, Broken Dreams is actually a Joey Tempest solo release with a drum computer and no Tony or Ian. RTN and On The Loose from the same EP might as well contain a drum computer? Maybe that could be the source of this rumour?

Maybe that could be the source of this rumour? Joey recorded "Broken Dreams" and "On the Loose" alone, except for the guitar solo on "On the Loose" which was recorded by John Norum, and yes, Joey did use a drum machine on those two tracks. "Rock the Night" was recorded by the band.

Another thing is that Lyin' Eyes is no longer The most rare single.... Around the year 2000 the sons of Thomas Erdmann found around one hundered copies in their fathers basement and sold them. (sorry about this spoiler)

Okay I knew that Broken dreams was a solo recording. But also On the loose? That is new to me! Always thought it was a band effort. Together with Rock the night. How about the re-recorded Seven doors hotel version? Was that recorded at the same session as Rock the night? So with the full band? To my ears the drumsound (but also the guitar) on those two recordings are almost identical. I've always thought that about the On the loose version as well. But that theory is now shot to pieces (thanks Stein ).
