1986 This was the year of the dreadful accident in Chernobyl, the spaceship Challenger explodes and Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme is assassinated on the Street, ... But not all bad news, on May 26, 1986 goes on sale one of the albums that was destined to change the history of rock, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN. So, what about the music shared the top of the lists of that time with our beloved TFC? Do you remember ? It can be fun to share the songs of that time in a thread, and bring back 30 years later the musical taste of this year We can share songs of all styles, not only hard rock
Firs song that I want to share:
Is released in July 1986 ... BON JOVI band gives the world "YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME"
Anyone else remember a band or a song of that time that liked ?? Or maybe hates a lot !!!

Cool topic! Because 1986 was a GREAT year actually, not only for hardrock but also for metal. You'd be surprised how many metal-classics came out that year: Metallica - Master of Puppets Slayer - Reign in Blood Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time Judas Priest - Turbo Megadeth - Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? Ozzy Osbourne - The Ultimate Sin Sepultura - Morbid Visions But also: Queen - A Kind of Magic Van Halen - 5150 Genesis - Invisible Touch Status Quo - In the Army Now Motörhead - Orgasmatron Toto - Fahrenheit Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill And some great solo-albums: Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Trilogy Joe Satriani - Not of This Earth David Lee Roth - Eat 'Em and Smile Amazing year huh?? Those were the days... As I have grown more into metal over the years, I wanna pick Metallica - Master of Puppets as one of my favorites. But since I was only 6 years old back then and not into metal haha, I'm going to pick a song I remember being released. Not particularly my favorite song or anything, but watching a lot of MTV (waiting ofcourse for The Final Countdown to come on), I remember always being very fascinated by this video as a kid. Brian May shooting cartoon lightning out of his guitar...great memory!

Cool Ernie Ball , ... About QUEEN, what a band! Each song of them is a gem ... "A kind of magic" too, love it ! And that video very 80s. I also remember that I liked "In the army now" by STATUS QUO is an almost hypnotic song and video with images of the army .. were very successful, and that touch of battery at the start of the second verse is amazing, great memories!

I grew up in Sweden and during a period of six years (1985-1991) the swedish economy was being heavily leveraged until it crashed in the year of 1991. The government wanted full employment and stimulated the economy and the banks lended out credits like there was no tomorrow thanks to a reckless financial-deregulation in 1985.
Everything was possible. People around me were happy and had jobs. It was like living the dream.
Europe is like a soundtrack from those days and I think it is symbolic that the banded ended the first part of their career with the economic troubles and bust in 1991.
The year of 1986 was a year of endless potential. It seemed like there was a tide that lifted all the boats.
The Final Countdown album always pick me up when I am down. Like an elixir from better days.

Very interesting your post coasttocoast ,
To my the 80s was a time of excesses, if not from the point of view of social openness, because maybe 70s were craziest in this regard, at least in some countries, but the 80s was an explosion of color, the image mattered much, great rock bands signed great albums in that era but they cared for their image in a special way, as if was also a value in their shows. The success of hard rock alternated with the success of English pop, at least in my country, with bands like Pet Shop Boys, Simple Minds or Simple Red had were much admired.
I remember that song was number one and hit very hard. Falco with his AMADEUS, (he was an austrian singer who died very young in a car accident, unfortunately)
