I think they have lost a little bit of their unique style with BOB... but probably I'm still 'travelling to the new destination' like Joey puts it...
So before I become judgemental I like to say one thing: I love Beautiful Disaster but I don't like the rock n roll vibe. They should have made it a rock song.

Still waiting for my copy from Japan. Until now I've only heard few bits and the single of course. With LLAE I couldn't avoid listening all the tracks before buying the CD. The hype was huge for me at that time. Now I'm trying to wait to listen to the album in his entirety because I have the feeling that it's not full of fireworks as LLAE was but it's probably more a compact work that must be understood as a whole. To tell the truth I'm a bit worried. It seems to be very well recieved by the critics (since I still haven't seen a negative review yet). On the other side, the common listener (according to what I've read here and there in non-monothematic blogs and forums) don't seem to be so enthusiastic. I trust very much the musical sense of this band...but...well maybe I'm only worried because LLAE was such a masterpiece that I hardly see how they can do better.

I really like the album, but im still not sure abou NSTSTB being released as a lead single, it just dosnt seem strong enough, and i think there are prehaps better suited tracks on the album (although i cant decide which!)

Their best until now. It joins together all the best qualities of their previous albums. Excellent songs, Varied styles, although there's a coherence. and the structure of the album is very well-thought, with perfect sequences of songs. And so good performances ! My favorites: -Bag of bones :10 -Riches to rags :9 -Firebox: 9 -Bring it all home : 9 -Demon head : 9 -Doghouse : 8 (I liked the former live version, more rough...) -Mercy you : 8 -My woman : 8 -Not supposed to sing : 7 -Drink and a smile : 7 (I like the instruments, but not the voice here...) i've also found awesome that "Riches to rags" sounded live excatly like in the cd !

Well....a lot of blues i guess. Is different... I need to listen again and again and again. Otherwise, BOB is a more mature album and it comes to show that Europe can get out of them comfort zone without any problem. My Woman my friend is my favorite and Firebox is also very good.

I love everything. I can't believe how good this album is! When I bought the album I listened to it all the time and you know what? Normally I have to wait for most of the songs to grow on me but not this time. I think the next single should be Bag Of Bones. And for some reason, Bring It All Home brought tears to my eyes. Must be because I imagined Europe stopping playing in the future...Hopefully they'll be around for a long, long time.

First post on the 'new' forums here. Great job Stein. Anyhow, my fab track is a toss up between Firebox and My Woman My Friend. Joey I think is really pushing his vocals to their old peak with this album but still hate that blues vibe this album has. Doghouse I think is Dogshit.

What do I think? That they have to find an identity. I liked the songs that I mentioned in the dead ETB forum after listening to the Japanese samples. But I seriously think that Europe have to find and define their own identity. If I want to listen to Blues Rock, there are better albums out there, thanks. If I want to listen Zeppelin like songs, thanks, I can listen to the original. SFTD was a great album for one reason. It was Europe. SS and LLAE were also more Europe even though you could see a slight change in direction but not to a point that you could tell.
With BOB, the whole production is like taking away from Europe all they have been the last 30 years. And all reviews and album promotion do not make ANY sense to me. It's like 'yeah, they abandoned their soft pop crap and they became men now and play what they grew up with'. Pfff! There several weak bits in BOB. When Joey wants to raise the tone, he ends up shouting. Some songs are so weak that they don't even deserve to be b-sides. Drink and Smile, or else Joey singing like a Dalek. EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE...ZZzaaap... Doghouse. So weak. Bring it all home. No idea why they included this, a goodbye song to the fans written in 92. What's the point really? What's the message you want to pass to the people in 2012?
BOB has its moments. It is a good album but far from being 'the most important since TFC' as the sticker on the vinyl I received says. LLAE was a much better album, STFD was the most important album and SS was a more warm album.

I think there are lots of things that are great about this album. And actually lots of parallels with the older Europe. Great backing vocals and harmonies like the 80's, lots more Hammond organ, fantastic riffs. The production is, I think possibly the best they have ever had. All the tracks on this album are fantastic and in my opinion there is not a single filler track on this album (as there were on LLAE). For me personally there is nothing negative at all to be said about this album.

nikos has got the blues... and he's very honest. Like good friends are.
I agree with most of the things you wrote, nikos. I start listening to BOB and I can't get to the end of the second song, wherever I start.
It's torture. The music is dry and rude in many cases.
Sounds like music by people who have become proud.
I don't understand the lyrics to most of the songs this time. "Last thing I hear is laughter"? OK, good for you, Joey.
"Bring it all home" sounds like a threat to me. Goodbye. But not goodbye. "Maybe in 5 years, maybe in 25..." What does it have to do with the album? Was it put there due to lack of other songs?
So I go back and play "Last Look at Eden" because I've been missing it, I've been missing the riffs, the melodies, the heart, the naughtiness, the inspiration it has. I've been missing the tenderness of real ballads. The juice of a glorious song like "Last Look at Eden" or "No stone unturned."
I'm glad to see the boys in all those new videos and interviews; it's great to put effort into promoting an album, but yeah... maybe it's not necessary to tell people what to think about it.
Come to think of it, of real ballads with a clear message... the first time I listened to "In my time", I had no idea what had been happening in their personal lives. But I understood that it was about a lost spouse and the way the song ended, it left you with a sense of longing and the feeling that it wasn't over.
See what I mean? Do you see what I miss?
