Yeah, also still unclear on some of the lyrics. Probably just the inferior audio quality makes it a bit indistinct. I think it's a really good song; the bridge I find really rather hypnotic, vocals powerful and strong, guitar solo very 'Norum'; all ingredients present and correct for me. Not blown away awesome, but a very solid track, and probably there will be even better ones on the album. It gets 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now more in detail: the melody of the verse, at a first listening, left me a bit cold, I thought it wasn't that original. Now that it's grown on me and I feel it's very well connected to the riff and has this Sabbath-ish way that builds the right dark and heavy atmosphere. It prepares an excellent contrast to the following opening, first instrumental with the bridge (best moment) and then sang in the chorus. The chorus is catchy but not foregone and very europe-style. All in all I like it very much, not as much as LLAE but certainly more than NSTSTB. Of course rationalizing it all doesn't make a song better. The most important thing is the emotional impact. It worked for me, I can understand if it doesn't work for everybody. One more thing...I have this strange feeling like it's somehow "cut". I am probably wrong (as usual) but I feel that there could be an extended version...I feel that a longer prologue would fit good. I would also expect a longer "suspended" (drums only) chorus after the guitar solo (which by the way is another strong point). I hope that the album will follow this dark, metal line. As vielip I also hope for fast and furious up-tempos, but this single is a good start to define the general mood. A couple of listenings further I have to say I am beginning to like it more. The bridge to the chorus is fantastic! It is very melodic which reminds me of old school Europe. The chorus is also strong and melodic. Joey's high vocals are nice and very welcome. I hope he can deliver it on stage. Norum's guitar sound also get's a thumbs up from me. Is it his stratocaster or just me wanting it to be the stratocaster? Anyway his sound is nice and the solo, although a bit short for my liking, is strong. Which leads me to the point ent brings to the table; a longer unedited album version is definitely an option!

I could say many things but two of them summarize my emotional impact, and as ent said, probably we should listen to our feelings more than rationalise the song. I am desperately in love with that line and music: "On that night under the raging Northern sky" And then: that sounds of bells in the bridge, melodic and catching me completely! The Kings have returned! Thumb up!

Thank you so much, Ernie Ball , ent , Marina Art and @tarlanist for the links towards the song ! And thank you watercolourgirl and Michaela Italy for the lyrics ! No doubt : this forum is a precious place ! First of all, concerning the song overall, I'll say the title keeps its promises. The warrior atmosphere is really there : Something heavy, dramatic, intense. Someone told it was related to vikings sagas : the song brings the vikings to me actually ! Now details : like many of you, I like the "bridge" towards the chorus and the chorus itself very much, more than the verses. First time I heard the verses, I thought about "song N°12" from SFTD: very dark, rough, and not very melodic. More frightening than beautiful, but once more it suits the theme of the song. I wonder if that's not the Leven's touch ? Perhaps he contributed to this song for that part. Then, the melodic bridge : surely Mic's touch. And there, contrary to the verses, something lighter, nearly in the 80's tradition... The chorus is the strongest part : both melodic and heavy. A kind of synthesis between verse and bridge. To resume my impression : a powerful song, with a real strong atmosphere. Not a masterpiece, but great anyway. Now concerning the performance, what could I say ? : that's Europe mastery. Everything is great, because they are among the best musicians in the world. I think this song will be awesome played live.

Any one that can hear whats whispering just before Norums solo? About 2:10 in the song! Secret message?? JTempest said somewhere that's an "enigmatic" album... Many secret messages are probably to be found ! For example, there's a skull on one of the black pieces... And watch this post from Mic Michaeli fans facbook page: www.facebook.com/groups/330401877044380/permalink/759393940811836/On the black king piece, there's something written : "Ultima Ratio Regum". A latin quote from the French king Louis XIV. It means : "the force is the last argument of kings" ... Royal ! ... I LOVE THIS KIND OF THINGS

Another detail that I like about the new song is the hammond organ throughout most of the song! Anyone else noticed this?

Joey's high vocals are nice and very welcome. I hope he can deliver it on stage. I agree, Joey really goes for it this time! Norum's guitar sound also get's a thumbs up from me. Is it his stratocaster or just me wanting it to be the stratocaster? Well, the pictures from the video shoot for "War of Kings" showed Norum using a Stratocaster, so I guess you're right.
