I've also listened to it all day . What I really like in it is the epic attitude of both the lyrics and the music. I was missing this kind of stuff in the last album. It makes me think that, after all, they are really not supposed to sing the blues. This WOK is certainly truer to their roots and style. I find a sort of connection to The king will return...is War of kings part of the same saga? I like to think so.
Now more in detail: the melody of the verse, at a first listening, left me a bit cold, I thought it wasn't that original. Now that it's grown on me and I feel it's very well connected to the riff and has this Sabbath-ish way that builds the right dark and heavy atmosphere. It prepares an excellent contrast to the following opening, first instrumental with the bridge (best moment) and then sang in the chorus. The chorus is catchy but not foregone and very europe-style. All in all I like it very much, not as much as LLAE but certainly more than NSTSTB.
Of course rationalizing it all doesn't make a song better. The most important thing is the emotional impact. It worked for me, I can understand if it doesn't work for everybody.
One more thing...I have this strange feeling like it's somehow "cut". I am probably wrong (as usual) but I feel that there could be an extended version...I feel that a longer prologue would fit good. I would also expect a longer "suspended" (drums only) chorus after the guitar solo (which by the way is another strong point).
I hope that the album will follow this dark, metal line. As vielip I also hope for fast and furious up-tempos, but this single is a good start to define the general mood.
