I can leave Riches to Rags out. I like this song but not like the other three... Then the very hard choice: 1) Memories - for such a catching tune and the power of it, written in their very early stage, fantastic! 2) A mother's son - for the moving lyric, a poem and as ent commented already, probably the best line ever written by Joey if not for "Open Your Heart" that as you all well know, for me comes first. "There's a light, a different kind of light when you close, you close your eyes" "There's a rage, a silent kind of rage..." All the nouns so well counter-balanced by an opposite adjective or sense in the verse. It gives the idea of how hard it is to carry on one's own life... 3)Devil sings the blues - it's a classic blues song to me. I love the guitar in it. I didn't know it was dedicated to Norum's son! I had only heard Joey whispering "this is for you, Jamie" in the Almost Unplugged version. But sure in 2006 Jamie was not even born yet. "I learn to crawl" : what you wouldn't expect to hear from a rocker! The contrast once more is so moving though. I have to choose the first two. To decide, I always think "what if I had to throw the songs out of the window FOREVER? What are those I really cannot accept to part from and not to listen anymore?". I save Memories and A mother's son. Perfect Michaela That's my exact argument and I would have expressed with the very same words (if I had your english skill). Nothing to add but my vote: - Memories - A mother's son The situation is absolutely uncertain so keep on voting (you have time until Sunday at 22.00)!

No doubt about Riches to Rags, I like it but I can leave it out. About the other three songs, which has to be left behind? How can I choose? Memories is a breath-taking ride through the past, it contained all the energy of youth and even the most recent live versions can't hide the linearity of its structure: it's like a scene painted using just the primary colours (but what a pleasure to listen the Almost Unplugged version with all its enrichments, the Hammond organ, John's guitar recovering the rhythm of ancient popular dances...) A Mother's Son is a wholly different thing: words are poetry built up from a more expert writer, voice and music are full of shades and use every possible colour... but the refrain doesn't convince me yet, it's too heart-breaking. But I agree the lyric is one the best, or the best Joey has written. Devil Sings the Blues: I love the dialogue beetween voice and guitar, the strings that sweetens the scene... lyric is a bit mannered here and there but then come words as 'Days like these, it's like I've never lived at all...' and I know once more why I like this group so much. In the end, I will choose (ahiahiahi.... ) Memories Devil sings the blues

I can leave out "riches to rags" but very tough choice between the other three Finally I keep - A Mother's Son (lot of memories with this one, a tribute to my Daddy) and - Memories (the earlier days... )

After taking a look at the groups formed, I think there is one in which it will be impossible to throw out two, and is the europemagnum group C, but I don't want anticipate, clearly it will be very painful. About Group A: - Memories (1983), Not my choice, because my bet very strong is for SEVEN DOORS HOTEL, I think it should be within the 3 or 4 finalist songs, let's see ! -A mother's song (2006), My first choice, I have always liked but never been among my favorite ballads, in any case I think it's sweet that transmits peace. Also my friend Michaela dedicated it me on facebook a few days ago, a video of Joey singing live and I liked it, it was directly to my soul. Thanks Michaela. -Devil sings the blues (2006) My other choice, Mr. Norum returns to give us class of good taste and makes magic with his guitar. -Riches to rags (2012) I'm sorry for to leave out "Riches to rags", is a fantastic song, but I like more Bag of Bones, so ... we'll see. WWHHAAATTT ? You're not choosing "Memories", Eva Tomorrow ? I can't believe my eyes ! There's always big surprises with this thread... For my sake, I'll pick : -Riches to Rags -A mother's son"Riches" is one of my favorites in BOB, because it brings a lot of energy, and EUROPE is first of all a matter of energy for me.

WWHHAAATTT ? You're not choosing "Memories", Eva Tomorrow ? I can't believe my eyes ! There's always big surprises with this thread... Yes guesswho? , every decision at this level of the game has implicit a mistake, because we leave aside "essential songs" "Memories" is enormous, ... I love this performance, but OMG ! "A mother's song" and "Devil sing the blues" also deserve it !!! On the other hand, and if my "Google translate" not deceived me, in the interview to Joey in Turkey that you have posted, they asked about his favorite song and says "Last look at eden", well I find interesting, could it be our choice ? Let's see!

(ooops! sorry ent ! ) So, my last choice is : -Riches to rags -A mother's son(and concerning tempest choice in this turkish interview : I've noticed he changes his mind very often. I've read other interviews where he told his favorite song was a different one. But he has the right to change his, mind, of course ! -just like me in this thread, in a way... )

Hello everybody , the time to vote the songs of this first group of Phase IV is now expired. It’s been an incredible fight, exciting and thrilling until the last minute. The change of vote of Guesswho has been counted (hey guesswho??, guess what? I think that from now on I will call you Guesswhich? ). Here’s the final result: Memories: 8 A mother’s son: 8Devil sings the blues: 7 Riches to rags: 7
So Memories and A mother’s son are the first two tracks of the final 16 . Actually “Devil” and “Riches” were so close that we can certainly say that we feel appreciation and devotion comparable with the first two. It’s sad to leave them behind (“devil” ) but it would have been equally unpleasant to leave behind Memories or A mother’s son. However, since this game has somehow to go on we’ll take this result and move on. Group B Cherokee (1986) Rock the night (1986) Spirit of the underdog (2004) Wake up call (2004)Destiny (with some help from Sahiyela Osiceca) mixed up two songs from TFC with two songs from SFTD. Who’s going to win? Here we have: - The fourth single from TFC with its engaging drum intro and the relentless chases between guitar and keyboard; - The rock statement from the ’80 with its double guitar solo and its anthemic gait; - The sophisticated and profound tune from the reunion album with its majestic grand piano intro; - The granitic wake up call to the fans after the long sleeping decade with its knocking riff. No need to say that once again every single vote will make the difference and the only way to make the difference is being here. This session will close on next Wednesday, September the 25th at 22.00. Choose your favorite two! As for me, I need to think about it . Like Joey suggests, I’ll just “ sit beside the fire, when the light is going down…I have so much left to remember”...

What an amazing and exciting finish in the previous group.... !! Ok, we move forward ... My choice: - ROCK THE NIGHT,One of my favorite classics, essential song is great, it has strength, great guitar solo and the chorus all sing in chorus at every concert. -WAKE UP CALL I don't have no clever lines To explain my state of mind Well, it doesn't matter It's just a while since I could feel This song is what I need Like a wake up, wake up callIt's a song from one of my favorite albums of the band, going from less to more, and transmits a lot of energy. I love it. I think the resolution of group B is also difficult, let's see!!
