Hello Aphasians!
The time for voting the songs of Group H is now expired. And with this Group we have completed the grid of the final 32 songs! This session has been great also because, with our new voter
rikaito, we’ve reached the highest number of voters per single session so far
. Again, thanks everybody for your votes, opinions and all the rest that has made this thread so successful. Henry Ford used to say something that matches perfectly with our game: “coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success”. The next selection will surely need very hard working, so be prepared! But let´s put some order. Here´s the result of the Group H:
Firebox: 12
No stone unturned: 12
Forever travelling: 10
Scream of anger: 10
Human after all: 8
Got your mind in the gutter: 5
Talk to me: 2
I’ll cry for you (acoustic): 1The first four songs win the group
. Unfortunatly none of the three tracks from the Prisoners era passed the selection. We also left behind “Human after all”, but “Forever travelling” carries the flag of Secret Society to next Phase. The general opinion has privileged the newest songs plus the hard rock anthem Scream of anger.
Soooo, it wasn´t at all easy but, at last, here´s the reward: for your joy, the complete list of the 32 songs selected by the users of the Aphasia forum for the final phases
. “Our” best Europe song is hiding somewhere in the following list:

It’s good for everyone to understand some issues related with the selection process: 1) The songs were grouped almost randomly and this means that maybe different groups would have given different results. 2) The moment and the mood play a decisive role when it comes to make this kind of choices. Maybe in two months the result could be different. 3) The final selection is an average opinion of the voters. Each one of us has probably a slightly different idea. None of us will completely agree with this selection, but this is what we’ve chosen as a community. 4) It’s important to remember that this game has the main purpose to entertain people by playing with the music of our favorite band. That said, I think that we can make a few considerations.
The first one is personal: looking at this list I would certainly know which discarded songs I would like to see in it. But when it comes to say which ones I would exclude from the list, well, that’s not easy at all!
I’m not going to say that I’m completely happy with the final list, but it would be hard for me to make it better! What about you?
As you can see the most successful album has been so far LLAE: all the six songs selected in Phase I made it to Phase IV. The more troubled one was PIP: only Girl from Lebanon survived to the massacre. It must be said that all the so called “Bonus songs” were discarded. Does it mean something? Maybe that the final choices (by the band, by the label or by whoever) to exclude them from the final and official track-list of the albums was a right decision? I don’t know. Personally I’ll miss “Here comes the night”, but that’s just me.
A few words about “old days vs. modern days”: we started with 63 songs from the pre-reunion period and 45 from the post-reunion era. Now we have 14 “classics” and 18 “modern” (it`s strange to call them modern, sometimes I forget that Star from the dark has nearly ten years!
). So the “new” songs finally overrun the “old” ones at least in quantity. What does that mean? My interpretation would be that we showed appreciation and affection for the new deal and confirmed that we enjoy very much the path the band has followed since the reunion. On the other side, as die hard fans, we’re pretty used to the classics and their primitive magic is a little lost for us. Do you agree?
Let’s compare our 32 songs “setlist” with the 25 songs “setlist” of the anniversary gig: 15 songs are in both the “setlists”. In “our setlist” we added Memories, Stormwind, Heart of stone, Cherokee, Ninja, Tomorrow (never played live), Ready or not, Spirit of the underdog, Flames, Wake up call, Hero, Devil sings the blues, A mother’s son (never played live), Forever travelling, In my time (never played live), Gonna get ready and Bag of bones. From the anniversary gig setlist we’ve left out 10 songs: Not supposed to sing the blues, Superstitious, In the future to come, Paradize Bay, Prisoners in Paradise, Drink and a smile, Love is not the enemy, Wings of tomorrow, Carrie and Let the good times rock (surprisingly enough, five of them were published as singles). Now ask yourself, which “setlist” is better? Which concert would you like to attend to?
Good, that was it. What happens now? The selected songs will be grouped again in 8 groups (4 songs per group). If you want to participate in drawing the groups you should take a look here:
forum.wingsoftomorrow.com/thread/584/battle-songs-service-thread?page=3&scrollTo=5323Phase IV will start, just here in this thread, as soon as the Groups are formed.
In the next Phase you’ll be asked to pick two out of four, so it’s going to be harder than ever. I hope you are ready to prove your loyalty to your favorite songs: you have probably in mind some tracks that you’d never let down. Despite this, we will see true masterpieces colliding with each other and perhaps your priorities could be seriously questioned (and we might need a parental advisory for explicit contents
)! At the end of the Phase IV we will remain with only 16 songs.
Feel free to express your considerations and stay tuned for the next battles!
