And again Kee can't stop himself from mud-slinging: It’s kind of funny that your former band is also going towards that style and direction. The latest two or three albums sound a lot like Purple and Whitesnake. I’m not saying any names, but it seems that someone else likes Coverdale too.Kee Marcello: Yeah, no. The thing is… How can I say this? They don’t have the songs! And I don’t think they have quite the same direction. One of the reasons for that is that I’m doing my type of songwriting and what we’re doing right now is that we don’t want to write that. So, we’re in different directions that way. I have to say this, to be quite frank. I think Europe lost their songwriting. I don’t know what happened.

This situation is nothing new, and I believe that it will never end. It's been 14 years since the band reunion, project in which (I don't know why and I don't care) Kee is not part of it. He talks about a hypothetical meeting between 2 bands, EUROPE and the KEE BAND as if they were at the same level or something like this ... no Kee you don't realise, if there is a tribute to OUT OF THIS WORLD, ... what that some or many fans ask is a meeting of the musicians who played on that album, so maybe EUROPE (Great band recognized internationally) could invite you (former member of the band, who played in 2 of the 11), but it's a great band that invites a former member, not 2 bands that come together. Kee's band is known because it is led by a former member of Europe, that is the reality. And about this Kee's sentence: "... I think Europe lost their songwriting ..."

Well, he's right. Europe is not even remotely what it once was. In 1987-88-89 they filled stadiums, now they can only rent nightclubs of 2000 people. And let's not talk about the music they do now, it has nothing to do with the Europe of the 80's

In fact the music world has changed a lot since then, now fill stadiums Guns & Roses, (totally understandable) but so does Justin Bieber (absolutely incomprehensible), so from my point of view this doesn't imply anything about if an artist is good or not. The reality is that without filling stadiums EUROPE has managed since its return to find a comfortable place in the rock industry and has achieved something very difficult that is to be respected mediatically by rock people, press, critics, other bands, a respect based on their work, quality and being authentic, in following the path they have decided without looking back. And I think that even filling places of 2,000 people, they are much better known than Kee Marcello alone, whom has in every interview the comment close to his name (EX-EUROPE MEMBER), I guess everything has changed. This doesn't mean that KEE has worse quality than when it played OUT OF THIS WORLD, of course no, I think that Kee is a great musician, but the reality is that the media interest for Kee is very influenced by having belonged to the band "that no longer fills stadiums" but that everyone knows . And about their music, it's clear that if they have survived these years after their return and have a very interesting future ahead as a band it's because their music has nothing to do with the past, otherwise they would have lasted very little. We all have to evolve or die, but not only in music world, for me in life in general too.

Europe is not pursuing that, they do the music they like, they are not making music for the radio or whats popular now. Europe is not like Metallica or BJ or any band that has to change their style to be on the top.

A lot has changed since the 80’s! Europe are sounding better than ever right now. The bon jovi performance at the hall of fame awards was embarrassing it was so bad. Europe are very well respected these days and who cares if they don’t sell out arenas... we know that Europe are the greatest!!

So.... Just to be clear: I went to see Kee Marcello band in 2016. They were much better than I expected. I met Kee, he was really nice.
That being said... about the "Europe lost their songwriting" bit....
Kee takes old Europe songs like "Seventh Sign" and "I'll cry for you" and redresses them, and puts on new lyrics, and then presents them as new songs... Soooooo.... who really lost their songwriting??

It's sad. Even if he believes what he states and really does not like the way EUROPE sound these days, Kee does not have to sling mud. He should rely on his own talent and stick to singing his own songs, in my humble opinion. :/

I wish everyone could get along...Kee is truly an amazing guitarist, his chops were killer back in the day, his phrasing, his incredible vibrato...so hard to get his technical skill with some 'feeling' behind each note. I like Norum a lot, but he's a very different player than Kee. Having Kee do some OOTW shows, as much as I would LOVE this to happen, I think would be awkward at the best of times, but who knows...they might all bury the hatchet and get along...maybe...one day...
