From the Spanish TV show Tocata in 1986, followed by an interview with Joey:

And yeah you're right about the jacket, pretty rare indeed On a side note. Thirty years ago this was the way to go if you wanted to sell records, I know that. But watching these clips now....it makes me feel kinda uncomfortable haha. Those playback tv-shows are so awkward. If you're sensitive for that, I can really understand somebody like Norum got sick and tired of it.

Everyone in the band thought it was boring to do playback shows, but John Norum really hated it. And I totally understand that. Going on all these TV shows and having to mime to pre-recorded tracks in front of audiences of people dressed in tuxes and evening gowns... It would make anyone go nuts.

Must have been horrible. Especially for decent musicians... I really admire Joey though for always giving 200% on these tv shows. It must have felt like putting on a mask or something. Often you can notice the rest of the band is pretty bored, but Joey is always giving his best and keeps on smiling. I guess that's what makes him such a good frontman

Totally agree and understand Norum on this subject! These shows are so NOT rock & roll. Wrong crowds, wrong shows and worst of all; miming! It's almost embarrassing to watch....really! But on the other hand; back in those days this was (one of) the way(s) to sell records. And yes, Joey always gives it his all!

I remember I was so excited every time EUROPE appeared on a TV show... they were almost everywhere in those years ... later I started understand how boring and despressing it was for them to playback and not once but zillion of times!!!!! After all that was the way to do promotion and to reach out to a wider and wider audience... Joey has always given his best no matter if those shows couldn't be any farther from a real Rock concert! Chapeau!!!

Only an "encyclopedia-like fan" can now it ! Concerning the play-backs, yes, once for promotion, it can be OK and even funny, but hundred of times... No doubt that's the main reason why Norum left the band. He's so passionate and demanding for his guitar. However, I'm happy to see this video : they were son cute ! Thanks Stein.

We know Joey still has one of the black jackets and the Carrie jacket still. Wonder if he still has the white gem somewhere? Classic backwards mic stand spin too. I might be the only one but I don't mind the whole playback show thing. Some might get sick of it if you are a 'live' kind of person but I reckon they are kind cool if the music is cranked loud enough on the soundstage.
