Maybe it's already been a discussion on the forum I don't know. I bought the single version of Open your heart last week. It is the release with number EPCA6077 (1984). I already had the HOT release from the same year. To my surprise the version I bought this week is different to the HOT one. There are the backing vocals in the lines 'I've been waiting for the angels......' The way they played it live back then. Of which I've always thought that it's the best version of the song. And than when the end of the song came near and I waited for the usual fade-out another surprise struck me! Instead of the fade-out we've all known for years Joey kept singing on and on; 'I want you to call me', 'I want to come near you' and 'I want you to open your heart'. All in a canon singing kind of way. I've never ever heard this before! I knew that a different version existed but I always thought the only difference was the backing vocals on some lines. This ending of the song is completely new to me. And by far the best version I've ever heard of the song! Does anyone on here know if this version is available on cd? I doubt it but you never know

It's my favorite version of the song too. I don't think it's available on any officially released CD, though.

Thanks for the info Stein! Can it be that I also hear a slightly different overall sound? Looks like they've done something with the mix. The drums have a little more echo on the snare? I also hear a keyboard effect after the first verse that I've never heard before. I love this version so much that I keep playing the single on and on. Long time ago since that happened

To me that keyboard effect sounds a bit like a harp. I'm not too keen on that part, to be honest, but other than that, I love this version.

Yeah it sounds like a harp indeed. I like it because it's only that tiny little part. they don't overdo it if you know what I mean I was thinking about it that it's never been included on a cd release. It would've been awesome if it was included on the Rock the night best of cd. I mean, they really searched the archives for that cd to make it a special and interesting one (re-recorded Seven doors hotel, On broken wings, Here comes the night ect.). So I'm curious if this version of Open your heart was mentioned/discussed for that release.

But I'm not sure if they even remembered that version at that time.

But I'm not sure if they even remembered that version at that time. Probably yeah but as I said; they really put some effort in putting that cd together to make it interesting for long time fans. At least that's what Joey said in an interview back then

Thank you to highlight this version. I wasn't aware it existed and Open Your Heart is my absolute song n.1 from Europe. As you may have noticed here and there... did I ever tell you? The first 30 seconds of this song are set as my alarm clock in my iphone too. The beautiful thing is that when the first notes start, instead of swearing against the fact I have to wake up, it's like I simply feel I must follow that sound, like under a spell you know? And right now, while listening to this specific version, it all flew over me...I had on my screen a photo I took with Joey this very monday morning in Nurnberg and a feeling took hold of me: "OMG, I was with the man who wrote Open Your Heart"! This song will NEVER stop amazing me!!!

I just played my Hot version (HOTS 8417) and unlike what has been stated here, it also has the long version. At least mine does and according to Discogs it's the only reported pressing by Hot Records.
