I just listened to samples of the whole album in iTunes and I noticed another similarity... to one of Kee's own songs.
In my opinion, the main riff in "Soldier Down" is recycled from "Dead End Highway" from the Judas Kiss album.

So far I recognize these similarities. Good men gone bad - Yesterday's NewsI just listened to a sample of the song in iTunes and I agree with that comparison. But to be fair, we must also remember the huge similarity between "Yesterday's News" and the Rainbow song "No Release" from 1981: (go to 0:45 to hear what I'm talking about) It's like 90% the Yesterdays news riff . on the Black Hole Star "theory" , this was wrote by Kee when the Seventh sign thing was mentioned on one of his recent posts on facebook. if i'm not mistaken he says something like "Well , I also wrote that song".

vielip, Stein, glad you guys agree haha. I was like...Enter Sandman? C'mon guys, dont you hear it? It's SEVENTH SIGN!! Haha. And there are even more similarities, music-wise: he plays the main riff with "open strings" as you call it, just like the Seventh Sign main riff (switching between the E-G-D-A chords). And Kee's phrasing/choice of notes in all the little solo's +main solo are more or less the same as in Seventh Sign. All the arrangements, the way he builds up to the solo.... But holy crap, I never new about Rainbow and Yesterday's News! Amazing! And I'm a pretty big Rainbow fan, got all their records. But I dont really like that era of the band (with Joe Lynn Turner). I prefer the old stuff with Dio. But yeah, interesting... And well, about Kee, afterall...he did say he was gonna make an album like this. He "warned" us . And sure, I like that old Europe vibe, but not like this. Now it feels like he took the easy way: rework his favorite Europe songs (that he co-wrote) and come up with almost an exact copy. Feels kinda lame to me...

Enter Sandman? C'mon guys, dont you hear it? It's SEVENTH SIGN!! Haha. I still hear Enter sandman in the first 30 seconds. Mainly because the drum part is 98% a copy of the Metallica song. And the guitar riff has big similarities as well. But after that it's Seventh sign all over! About the Rainbow thing; I hear the comparison for sure! Well to be honest; there's lot's of rip offs and copy cat behaviour when you go and search. No wonder because (almost) everything has been done by now. I think it's almost impossible to create something 100% unique and is never done before.

I've lived with the album for a bit now, and I think it is by far his best solo effort. To some degree it is what Europe might sound like if they were still playing the way they did in the past. Even his vocals, which initially bothered me, seem to have tempered some and it is more enjoyable. My opinion, as some other may state, is that yeah... he's stuck a bit in the past, but who cares??? It was the brightest spot in his career. Regardless to details or reasons, he's the guy who didn't get to come back to Europe. Would you rather be playing small clubs or large festivals and theaters? Of course he'd rather be with Europe, and who wouldn't in the same situation. While I am perfectly fine with Norum as the guitar player, they could throw the guy a bone every once in a while. I mean, they could have asked him to play PIP at the 30th Anniversary show or something like that. Like many guys who are asked to come in after an original, they seem to be forgotten by fans and the band. I'm sure that's hard on the ego.
