Just a minor correction to the setlist: They played Love is Not the Enemy after Carrie at Loreley. The intro to enemy started and then stalled and they continued with Carrie and played Enemy after that.
Most people in the audience who didn't know Europe's newer albums didn't really come to terms with the first three songs. I heard one woman complaining behind me: I don't know any of the songs! So it was good they added Sign and Cherokee.
I think it was a good show, but not their best. At least I have seen better. They left the stage quickly as well. But they watched the other bands, too. You could see them all at one point or another taking a look at Black Star Riders, Whitesnake and probably Journey, too. When Journey played, the back of the stage was CROWDED!
And boy, did Journey play a great show! Arnel Pineda could sing everyone's asses off. Seriously.

Thank you Steph, I just edited my previous post so now the setlist is correct. In festivals they are somehow bound to play intensively their back catalogue (which I realised yesterday, more than before, is astonishing!) to win the crowd that is not there because of them. Festivals are big challenges, I think but, who knows, maybe they won a bunch of new fans also yesterday! Well, I actually think they've performed a wonderful show. It was a while since I didn't see the whole group live and it's been a blast. I know I'm not dispassionate enough but I think they sounded better than any other band playing yesterday (except Journey whose gig I couldn't attend). But all the bands sounded really good to me. Even if I didn't know most of the songs from H.E.A.T. or Black Star Riders, I enjoyed both. You don't have to know the songs to appreciate good music and just have fun with it. I was surprised by Coverdale too. I had seen some recent clips and I tought he had lost some power, but yesterday he performed very well and "loud". You know, it really seems these guys have made a deal with the devil . Time with them passes much kindly like the good wine (what I can't say of myself, that have already become bad vinegar! ) Anyway I also felt the crowd a bit cold until, I think, Superstitous. From then on I think everybody has followed the gig with a good enthusiasm. They playied 14 songs, that is pretty much in a festival for a non-headliner. The end was obviously powerful and epic: LLAE + TFC are a devastating couple! If I remember correctly they played Cherokee and Rock the night one after the other without suspension and that's probably how they'll play them at SRF too. Joey talked a lot during and among the songs, considering that they played in a festival and that they had a strictly scheduled time. During RTN I saw a man in the backstage that waited for Joey to look at him and then pointed his watch with a blaming face (as if to say: "you're getting too late guys!" ). That's probably why they left quickly the stage. Steph is right: since there was a nice sun shining you could see many things happening in the backstage. Ian attended most of the show of BSR (and Joey was there too for a while). Later I saw both Mic and Joey in the backstage at the beginning of the Whitesnake gig. Then the five guys were driven to the meet and greet place and I had the chance to get their signature on my ticket. They were kind as usual. Ian appreciated my T-shirt (the one with the 30th anniverary logo) even if i later discovered that, on the back, where the dates of the tour are prited, some venues are mispelled (and Lorely was one of them, of course ! And, Tomorrow, I regret to say Barcelona is mispelled too, on my T-shirt is written Bareclona! ). That's not a big deal for a supposedly official merchandise! (or maybe, who knows, in the future it will have a big value like some coins or stamps printed with mistakes ). Mic was really friendly too, he's a very nice and down-to-earth guy. I'm always a bit in awe when I'm in front of them (especially with Norum, I always see him as a sort of superhero, like, let's say Thor, but with a guitar instead of an hammer! ). So that was it. I had a great time, enjoyed beautiful music performed by great artists (legends of rock, I'd say), drinked pretty good beer and, ah yeah, I also had the chance to meet Guesswho! Nice to meet you, Madame! Almost no regrets (except that I missed Journey, but I couldn't really stay).

Ent: You liked Whitesnake? I thought they were terrible! Coverdale's singing was shocking. He mumbled the low parts and did some screaming, the really melodic parts that require actual singing were covered by his band. He stood with his back towards the audience too much and his attempts at making the crowd scream and clap were pretty awkward. I was shocked to see his performance. They were pretty good at the start, then they played too many solos for my taste - while Coverdale went off stage and when he returned it was all ... downhill somehow. Except for his jokes ... when he tried to throw a pic into the audience it fell down half way between the stage and the front row. Coverdale: That's why singers don't have pics. Regarding the sound: Journey had the clearest sound. I had seen some live videos on YouTube before, so I knew what to expect, but their performance totally blew me away!

Yes, I did like Whitesnake (the band as musician AND background vocals) and I appreciated Coverdale's performance. Something to do with expectations, I think: I was prepared to hear an embarassing performance and it wasn't. Don't forget we're talking about a 62 years old singer, that has screamed for most of his life (suffering also a bad injury not so long ago). I think we could be fair enough to forgive him if he skips some high notes here and there. I repeat, maybe it's only that I was prepared to that. But, to be completely honest, it must have also something to do with tastes and affection, I suppose...

Hi "ent" ; I'm glad you enjoyed the concert, thanks for your complete report. It's great that the band is back on the road ... I found fantastic have had the opportunity to meet the band, Woow I wish I could shake hands one day to the guys ..., especially "Thor Norum" ... great, hope one day. After reading this thread I have very curious to see David Coverdale, ... Let's see how he will be in Spain, here the fight is between Elliot, Coverdale and Tempest. The press in Spain in a recent interview to Joey, highlights the good form of Joey versus the other two singers, ... I join in this opinion, we'll see! You know? The official website also says "Bareclona" ... ha ha ha I don't know, don't understand, Barcelona is a city well known right? I also think that your t-shirt will be a "cult object" ... signing by "our heros" and the error in the name of the city make it unique . www.europetheband.com/tourdates.html

Yes, at Loreley it was a great show, IMO, as mister Tempest was clearly in a perfect shape. And i was happy that they played Cherokee. Even though I dind't heard many other bands, from what I've heard, Europe was very very good, among the best, as they clearly combine the main qualities of the other bands : the technic sound was good, they are amazing musicians, their songs are varied, and their "presence" on stage is very strong. Not many other bands could combine ALL those aspects. Concerning the setlist, Stein-Vidar, there was a short Norum's solo before "Girl from lebanon". Not as long as it can be sometimes, but he played his solo anyway (in fact, Mr Tempest intro to Norum solo was much longer than the solo itself, : he told the audience how he met him, and what an extraordinary guitarist Norum is; and he used many, many adjectives to qualify his genious : incredible, with golden fingers, amazing, etc, etc, etc... It seemed he'd never stop... ). From a personal point of view, a lot of incredible adventures happened to me during those 4 days in Germany (I'm back since last night). Very epic ! But as they are not especially related to Europe, maybe this forum is not the right place to tell them. It was nice to meet Ent ! Stupidly, I had forgotten at home one of my own 4 Europe tshirts which could have said clearly that I was a Europe fan ), but Ent was wearing a europe tshirt ; he was standing near me, and that's how I knew he was a fan. So I introduced myself, and we discovered that we were both members of this very distinguished forum ! I saw some other persons wearing Europe t-shirts; but as I was nearly at the middle of the secong rank, I didn't want to move and lose my place. So, I didn't talk to any of those fans. I have some films. I still don't know if they are good. I'll try to upload some of them. But I never filmed a whole song : only picked some whiles, now and then... Personal souvenirs in fact.

That is too bad, Guesswho! I kept looking around wondering who you night be, but of course I was looking for a Europe shirt. I was with two other girls wearing Europe shirts. We were in the fourth row on the left side of the stage. I was the one with a face like a lobster, because I caught a major sunburn on my nose and forehead ... Maybe we saw each other ... who knows?
