In the fall of 2010, Joey Tempest presented some radio shows at Planet Rock - UK radio station, which Clair recorded at that time. I have collaborated with her to realize the audio summaries of these episodes, including only the spoken parts by Joey, because the rest is copyright protected. These shows went aired on Sunday evenings, starting from Nov 7, 2010 up to Feb 27, 2011. And this is the first episode aired on Nov 7, 2010 including: - Montrose: "Space Station #5" - Aerosmith: "Nobody's Fault" - Rush: "Tom Sawyer" - Thin Lizzy: "Waiting for an Alibi" - Europe: "Last Look At Eden" - Soundgarden: "Black Rain" - Led Zeppelin: "Black Dog" - Black Sabbath: "Neon Knights" - Joe Bonamassa: "Blue and Evil" - Jimi Hendrix: "The Wind Cries Mary" - Slash: "We're All Gonna Die" Here is the main post on Facebook where all the episodes have been shared: link

I hope this will spark up an interesting discussion. I hope too! I will post more on this in the future, it's a good dig into Joey's preference in terms of music.

Thanks for sharing this Michaela Italy and Clair! Joey's musical selection is really superb! It was fun to know that Secret Society was written pants half down (episode 28.11) 😀 😀

Thanks for sharing this Michaela Italy and Clair! Joey's musical selection is really superb! It was fun to know that Secret Society was written pants half down (episode 28.11) 😀 😀 I will have to transcribe that bit because it's so funny! I have found somewhere (but I cannot find the exact source now...) that Joey defines himself like this: "I am a very calm and disciplined person, but also a bit absent minded. I am a romantic and very impulsive as well as being sensitive" So, being absent minded and in a creative stage can lead you into lowering your pants at the swimming pool, right?... AND...we are in trouble already!

Here’s the proof of Joey’s “yellow upper right” part of his brain at work, check it out in the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) system! I don’t know which portion of my brain has worked here instead for me, but I highly suspect I have drifted directly into the red (alert) zone…and I bet this time Joey is gonna kill me when he reads what I have transcribed from Planet Rock on Nov 28, 2010… but I simply couldn’t resist, haha! “I was actually working on this song with my pants off way down my legs. Kind of an embarrassing moment really. Holiday in Turkey with the missus, arriving at the hotel pool and that so often happens with me, the right side of my brain was having a playback party of a riff I was really into. So I was working on this song. When I am in that mode I tend to close myself off completely to the rest of the world. And to this day I cannot figure out this one… As I arrived at my sun lounge I started undressing, pulling my trunks down as if I am gonna skinny-dip or change my clothes or something. My wife turns around and manages to limit the damage by saying:- “Stop! What the hell are you doing?!” There were a few couples around the pool and the whole thing has best forgot really. I snapped out of it and pulled myself aaand my pants up! So there it is, this is the reason the following song ended up without a bridge or a chorus, it’s built around one single riff all the way through! It’s a favourite Europe track of mine though and I think it’s got the right vibe. Even to this day I wonder what it would have sounded like if my wife hadn’t stopped me… here it is, Secret Society!” Video Credit for Secret Society at Alcatraz in Milan – Jan 2007:

One of my favorite videos ever. The grit and the softness of this interpretation, combined together in a cover that surpasses even the original. Roger Waters seems to agree, almost tears in his eyes! Besides not being an easy song at all to sing, also the lyric has such a deep meaning, if you "claw your way through" it, and something that comes out so made personal and heartfelt here! “A few years ago Roger Waters was awarded the prestigious Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Me and John Norum were invited to perform a Pink Floyd song at the ceremony. Check out what song we chose…” [Joey Tempest on Planet Rock – Nov 14, 2010] So ya Thought ya Might like to go to the show To feel the warm thrill of confusion That space cadet glow Tell me is something eluding you, sunshine? Is this not what you expected to see? If you want to find out what's behind these cold eyes You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise Lights, turn on the sound effects, action Drop it, drop it on 'em, drop it on them Source Video Credit:
