Friends!
We have decided to let you into the lives of some of the people associated with the band and ask various members of the crew and other closely connected personnel a few questions so you can see what goes on behind the scenes ... loosely titled 'Tech Tuesday', here is the first candidate, no other than the crew boss himself....
STAFFAN L. – Europe Tour / Production Manager
How did you break in to the music business? How long have you been in it?
I made the mistake and bought a drumkit at X-mas 1977….but really I guess from mid 80s. I realized after an aspiring career as a drummer that few were choosen to be rock stars but still even fewer were choosen to be admins/organizers of rockstars so I went in that direction, the math is obvious, for every 5-piece of rockstars there is only one tourmanager, so with a 5:1 ratio I am glad I got this far!
How long have you been with Europe?
Since they reformed 2004!
How old are you? Are you married and do you have children?
As Ian Andersson said, too old to rnr , too young to die Emoticono wink;-) 55 soon, 3 daughters and a wife.
How do you balance your work and home life?
I don’t, very hard actually but then again, what is "balance", I like what I do and that is the most important factor here I think, not that I do not like to be with my family but without the gigs and tours I would not be a whole person! ( lame excuse from a workaholic? )
What is it like working with Europe?
great ( obviously..) To be honest, it is a privilege to move onwards with them, there are of course days when the workload is mad and things are crazy but there are also great days, I have been places I would never have gone such as Bursa, Weert, Lawrence KS, Grimaud, Hinwil, Ebbw Vale, Szekesfehervar, Neuquen, Porvvo, Antofagasta and London etc
Do you have a funny story from the road you can share?
Yes, here we go…or no…or let me see…..there are a lot of funny stories but they are best untold Emoticono wink;-) Ok, here is one.
At one show we were in a bit of a hurry so Joey grabbed Mic´s belt pack/receiver for his in ear monitor mix and Mic did the same took Joeys, by mistake. Once on stage they were very confused because it did not sound a bit like what they were used to having the other guys mix in their ears….intial anger and confusion followed and the monitor tech nor anyone else got it until we hade them come over to monitor console after song one….hilarious afterwards but not when we were in the middle of.
Are you a musician yourself? and what do you play?
Yes, I do play drums still, and I will never stop, it keeps me sane to bang the drums on and off and the camaraderie in a band is special, being 55 and still being able to be silly and get drunk with fellow mates at my age, unbeatable!
Who are a few of your favorite bands or types of music?
It varies on a daily basis, depends very much on what I am doing, working, driving, cooking etc,
Thank you Staffan (pictured below on right with Joey)
